Im trying to add some authenticity (spelling?) to my competition map, and you know when your in like a underground parking lot the fluo lights make a kinda wizzing sound? lol I know, you have no idea what Im talking about.
Anyways, the ice rink where I work, the lights do that sound and I would like to go abouts adding that to my map.
First off, I have no idea how, and second, anybody willing to do it for me? just kidding.

Don't sounds have to be 22KHz of something in order for Half-life to play them?

Use a light entity and make its appearance "Fluorescent flicker" instead of "Normal".
Then use an "env_sprite" for the little electric sparks; one of the sprites makes exactly that effect, but i forgot the name.
But don't put too many flickering neons, it wouldn't be realistic; my advice is maximum one or two.

It's going to be really hard to record the sound you want with high fidelty but...
a. record the sound
b. DL goldwave or equivelent sound editor, and work around with it until it will loop in a pleasing manner.
c. Save it as 22 khz mono and add it to your map with an ambient_generic
I think there is some tag or other to make a sound automaticaly loop which I do not remember, but it may be better just to set up a periodic triggering system so that it won't play constantly.

Audacity is a good freeware, open-source sound editor.
