                        I remember hearing about it a long time ago. I thought it was mostly lost though. (or rather, valve refused to re-release it)

                        Uplink is where it all started for me man...
I think my machine was an AMD k2 @ 333hz, the video was a Rage Pro 3d 4mb card daisy-chained to a voodoo 2 12 mb booster card.
Of course being brand new to FPS, i didn't adjust the gamma thinking this is how dark it was supposed to be ( really freaking dark ), with the result that it freaked the shit out of me. The first headcrab at the first corner terrified me! The rest of the level was so atmospheric, and the AI so convincing, that I was sold.  Needless to say, HL itself was mind-blowing, although a tad less dramatic with "normal" gamma settings...
come to think of it, I'd recommend a run thru this level on scary-dark if you haven't played it already XD
