I think it is somewhat foolish to entirely dismiss prefabs as a useful addition to levels - yes, they may be overused by newbies and a lazy way out, but there are some excellently made (aesthetically and technically) prefabs to use in your maps!
However, I do agree too many prefabs spoil the broth - used in moderation and in the right situation they can inject some really interesting visual and playing points into a map. Double jeopardy really!

and the comment about the beating is based on the fact that I know him in real life...and I'm sure he knows my anti-prefab sentiment.

:smash: yes i'm sure you can gorb...
i wanted to use a prefab because it will be more than just a bunch of shelves, i needed books on it, and i didn't know about the "bookshelf" textures which i am more likely to use seeing as making all the books myself would probably slow down the map..

There are textures in the halflife wad that are supposed to look like a whole mess of books lined up. Just make one long block to be all the books.

Prefabs are sometimes ok to use, mind you the fools who make them make them far too complex, or make them s**t. I always end out editing the prefab beyond recognition of the original...
