now I've downloaded mods and looked in the zip file and all I see are random files spread around, but when I unzip it and look to the HL folder the folder for the mod is created and all the files are put into their correct places. How is this done?

I know that I've asked this question many times before, but could anyone guid me to a tut that explains how to structure the mod files without using a pak file, thx.

not quite sure what you're asking.

Do you mean. how do people make it so when you unzip their mod the files are placed in the correct directory?

If so. all you have to do is zip your outmost mod directory.

Such as, if you were zipping TS, you would go to your Half-Life directory and zip the TS mod folder.

Now, if that's not what you meant, and you mean making some sort of installer via install shield or something like that, you're on your own. But if its for a fairly small mod, a zip file should be fine.

when you look in the zip file, you see all the individual files down the left hand side. when you look along to the right, you can also see the names of the folders they belong to. when you unzip the files, winzip puts them into these folders.

Mod file structure is the same as the HL file structure.

Basically look in the valve directory and copy its structure, just for the content you have of course. Then obviously make sure you have a liblist.gam file and such ... these things are fairly common and if you have any mod on your computer, you should be able to easily copy its structure ...

Um ... I can't find a site on it, since it's fairly simple (no offense). just take a look at your other directories. How have you been making a mod if you don't understand the file structure? I mean .. how have you tested your maps and such?
