Hey all, i have a couple of quesions about compiling errors.  I have thouroghly read the tut on compiling errors, but so far, nothing has worked.  All of my compiling programs are running fine execpt RAD.  I get 2 errors:

"*******ERROR********:Memory allocation error" Then I get an incredibly long list of these......

"WARNING:SwapTransfers: unmatched"

Then WC crashes...i would post the errors, but i cant get to it because WC crashes.

Now, whats weird about it is when i don't run rad, the map still has light that is the color of my light_environment entity.  I have tried deleting the entity, but no luck.  I even tried runing RAD with out the light entities, but i still get errors.  Now, the tut says that "WARNING:SwapTransfers: unmatched" is usualy caused by complicated lightng....i only have one light environment entity in my  map....no other textured lights at all.  Like i said before, i have no other errors that i know of in the compililing program.  If anyone has any sugestions, please let me know.  Thanks!

i personally, have only had this happen once.. so i am unsure if its a common malady or not, but when i was creating Deja_Vu_2, built 80% before worldcraft 3.3 using worldcraft 2.1

the day 3.3 came out, i did a new compile, there was a list as long as your arm of swapfile transfer errors, the map never did see the light of 3.3 day..

i had to continue using 2.1

my point? have you recently add a rather large prefab ?

have you recently added something that could have been created using a far older editor?

as i said, this error could have many other causes, i know of no others so this is my only info..

remove them if so..

have you done anything between success, and failure?

good luck

Try clearing some memory...do a disc cleanup on your system.

Hey Orph, I have compiled and built the map using entirely WC 3.3.  As far as i know I have not added any prefabs or anything from an older version.  I did how ever have a "Leafs saw into leaf portals" error earlyer, but i turned some things into func_wall and that got rid of it.  I have defraged my hard drive, and i have opened up some more free space and even added some ram.  I dont know what i could do to improve it....This did happen some other time and i went back to a previously saved version and just copied and pasted from the recent version, back to the previous version and saved over the recent version and that seemed to get rid of all my errors....but i'm not sure why and what copy and paste could have to do with RAD.  The only other thing is that im compiling using WC.  I have neglected to switch to Zoners tools because im not in the mood to strugle with another set up of a compiler again.  Should i make the switch?

switching to newer tools is as simple as

1) downloading them

2)setting the path to them

i suggest you do so, the newer tools sometimes give you answers, you may not need to ask us about..

as far as you copy, over copy stuff, you lost me on that part..

Ha ha, sorry about that, i got excited.  I didnt mean to lose anyone on that.  I was simply saying that i took a previously saved file and just made it look like the one that i was workin on now.  Anyways, if you think it will help i will try the new tools, i just am not so sure about the rest of my maps, if they will benifit or not?

the newer tools serve a dual purpose..

1) they compile better.

2) they will force you to map better as well..

maps can be compiled with errors using the default tools.

the new tools will refuse most times..

you would be surprised at how many times i see the complaint " the new zoners tools screwed up my map" when all along it was the dummies using the default tools, and didn't realize that they were mapping wrong all along..

I had that at first with Zoner's tools - then I found all the errors (whatever they were; I can't remember now) and fixed them.  At first I was inclined to blame the tools, but now I'm glad to have them spot my mistakes.

i have seen it dozens of times here at SP alone..

many never realized that they were making horrible mistakes.. the default tools didn't care much, but IMO the mistakes were causing very long compile times..

my skill as a mapper IMO increased, as my compile times decreased.. course there are also other factors in long compiles, but my maps always compiled quicker, than its predecessors..

OK, i just downloaded Zoners compiling tools, and im having a hard time deciphering it....what is the first set of parenthises, and what are the ones under it.  And are the numbers coordenates?  If so is it L X W X H?  I'm having a hard time locating the actual errors, or the objects that are creating them.

Hey.....This is really weird.  I copied the guts of my map (everything except the giant box covered in sky texture) and pasted it to a brand new map.  Then i remade my Sky and compiled.  Granted it took 8 hours, but the map compiled with out error.  Is this a fluke?  Or, am i just extreamly lucky?  I have not had a chance to test the map to actualy see if its error free (im writing this inbetween classes).  I will make another post about this later, as soon as i get soome food and some rest.

I'm fairly new to mapping, but unless you're using a very old PC or have an unbelievably complicated map I think 8 hours is too long for a compile.

HAHA- Tell me about it, once i waited 23 hrs for a map to compile, then i just gave up on it.  Come to find out that VIS had some errors in it.
