yeah, but as i said jeff.. they are a bitch to use..

i PM'd him a possible, user friendly solution.. will be up to him to decide..

most "free" programs of this nature (when you consider, you are converting a stolen movie) well you get what you deserve..

let us hope, he finds my advice, usable.

Who said he was converting a stolen movie??

By the way, you can use pretty much any program to convert video, what is more important is that you have the proper codecs.

Besides
this http://www.divx-digest.com/articles/wmv2avi.html

and this http://www.riverpast.com/en/support/tutorials/convert/wmv/avi.php

are pretty comprahensive, and you need to have that amount of control to have a good output ... but they're really not that confusing ... I mean there's even a tutorial there.

[NOTE]
Those came from site results from jeff's link.

The problem is that the programs are written by and intended for people who want to make use of a very large number of very complicated options. So when somebody comes along who doesn't care about all that, they don't like the software and say it's too hard to use. The software forces you to know what you are doing before you can use it - in my view it is better to have more people who know what they are doing

Google finds a thousand little demos that will give you half-assed results or leave a gigantic watermark.

Anyway, I eventually found a free/good one, but thanks fellows.

On kind of the same note - does anyone know a program that can resize video? (and/or can anyone tell me how to make Premiere stop resizing my 320x240 video to hideous 742x368)

its in properties. when you re-encode it, select a VCD setting or make your own setting.

Once you have your video layed out and everything, goto File > Export > Movie

Under general change it to the codec you want. If there's not very many options, select 'Microsoft AVI' (yours is probably set on DV AVI).

Then click 'video' and you can change the screen size to whatever you like, along with the frame rate and audio options.

Obviously try to re-create the original settings of the video. However, I know there are other encoding devices that actually allow you to use the codecs you have on your computer (such as DiVX).

As much as a I hate Intervideo's programs, they have a pretty good encoding selection.

Hope all that helps.

or you could resize it with Virtualdub, no problem. (www.virtualdub.org)
