I am working on an NS map and the sky I am using is the altair sky. I went into the map properties and typed in cl_altair for the skyname. Then I did a quick compile but the sky is the half life desert sky. I tried another compile but I still get the Half Life desert sky. What's wrong?

There should be no "cl_" in front of the name.

Go to your NS/gfx/env directory. Look for the sky you want. You'll see files like skynamelt, skynamert, skynamebk etc. Just put in "skyname" as the name of the sky.

If the files are skyname_lt, skyname_rt, etc, put in "skyname_" in the sky field.

Yep it turns out that you can't have the cl_ in front of the name of the sky. All you need is the skies name. Thanks.

puts on saintly prude hat and prepares to sound like an ass

surely this question has been asked before, you sure you researched/ searched before you posted?

no offense to master fraggard, but people, we should not encourage these new members to short sheet our hard efforts.. if you guys see a question that you feel might or may have already been answered, ignore it.. don't answer just for the sake of a few snark points.. if we ignore them long enough, they'll get the message.

i am not saying we should flog each new member who bypasses the search option either, but...

sighs

I doubt this has ever been discussed specifically. But certainly, a little experimentation along with what has been said could easily solve most of the more simplistic problems. The scientific method is sadly overlooked by most of the world.

Yes I did a search twice using "sky" and "skyname" but got nothing. And it seems for some reason that you can't have cl_ in front of the name for NS because I have worked on Half Life maps in which I had cl_ in front of the name and got no problems.

P.S. I am not a noob to mapping so please don't treat me like one because I am new to this site.

That bit was in your defense.

This bit was aimed at the world in general, not you specifically.

Rule number one for a quite life in the forums: Keep a thick skin, and always assume the best.

I don't think it's at all wrong to advise a little trial and error before posting in the Editing forum (Not to say that you didn't try this, Spartan, but as a general rule).

I did try some trial and error but I had concluded that it couldn't have been the cl_ because it had worked fine with my Half Life maps. I guess everyone has got to be wrong about something. :grenade:
