Okay I dont know when this started happening, but when Id be playing through a game, suddenly my key board would stop working at the most random times. What would happen is if I wasn't holding any of the keys the mother board would beep (much like the BIOS beeb when any computer starts up), and the three lighs (n/lock c/lock s/lock) would flicker and I would lose control of my keys entirely, but if I happen to be movig (eg: movig foward with w) then my computer will beeb and ack as if im holding down on the "w" kep when im not.
The only way for me to rectify this problem is by restarting, then there is the wierd part sometimes, it'll restart, but then ill lose control of my mouse, Then I just have to hold the power key and do a Hard reset. Then when I get back to windows everything will be fine.
I scaned for viruses (in fact thats why I bought Nortion recently to try and fix this problem) and it found nothing, all updated included. I did a system scan for errors, no luck, so im at a stump. So I turn to the snarkpit for advice: WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON HERE!!!!!!!!!????????? its annoying because ill be playing CS source, and suddenly I'll lose all control, and im like WTF!!!!!!!!! so any info is helpful like is there a new virus out or what??????
Thanks omega

I doubt it's a virus.
You could check to see if your keyboard and mouse is plugged in all the way.
Check your cables to see if there are any breaks in the mouse and keyboard cables.
Check your keyboard to see if there's gunk and crap under the keys. In other words, it's most likely a physical problem rather then a computer problem.

This will sound like a fairly daft suggestion, but check autoexec.cfg
if you're playing HL. I've known people shove a little line in as
follows
bind mouse2 "unbind all"
Unlikely, but possible...

What happens if you just wiggle the cable around in different places? It sounds to me like one of the conductors in the cable is broken.

Try using another keyboard (e.g. borrow a friend's) to see if it's your keyboard or PC first..?

possibly unrelated but- i had three instances similar,
1) was an office computer keyboard, it had its own install disk, caused me all kinds of grief, cause it kept clashing with the hl keys..
2) was an internet keyboard, also had its own install disk, same sort of issues
3) was an older microsoft type keyboard, every time i pressed the windows key by accident, it kicked me out of hl..
in each case, i stopped using the keyboard, and un-installed anything related to them..
once though, many years ago i had a keyboard that got dust inside, whenever i pressed certain keys, it would actually press two at once, causing it to bork out cause two keystroke commands are not usually a game friendly procedure.. you might consider that.

Thanks for the suggestions:
crono: I checked the cables and connections and they are fine (they are less than a year old)
Loco: I checked no luck (which makes sence because not only does it happen in HL, but also in Doom 3)
Jeff: I did notice that the Keyboard/mouse sockets were a little lose on my MoBo (maybe this is the problem?)
Lep I tried another key board and it still locked me out after apox 5 minutes after it turned on.
orph The key board had been working just fine until recently when I installed a new Graphic card (dont know how GFX drivers have anything to do with it locking down).
Otz Its a micro innovations key board.
Thanks all, but once again I think the problem lies in my actual system config. Luckily im getting some new comp parts that will eventually make me replace the mobo and processor and ram and eventually reformat, I just wanted a answer so that I know Im not doing somehting wrong. Sorry for the waste of time, Lep (or admins) feel free to delete this pointless tread.

Never underestimate video card drivers as a cause for brutalities within your computer and its functions.

Oh, I also meant to mention: if you're using usb mouse and keyboard, there might be reserved channels colliding causing funky mojunky stuff to happen.

Nothing it wireless around my computer, all wires. As for the problem at hand I just discovered something: once my key board stops functioning (and the MoBo beeps) then If I unplug the key board (non usb) (and yes I know this is a bad idea) and I plug it back in and press the num lock my Mobo does a short two beeb craz, then it works  (yay!!!), but this is still temporary, ill be getting new comp parts soon  .

hmm ... you should probably check to see if there is anything wrong with the pins on the end of the keyboard and the female end on the motherboard... It sounds like the connection is just getting inturrupted or something as such.
