I bought one of these before this run to listen to my audio books on.. cost me $30.00.

dunno if thats a good price or not, but i love it.. 2 AA batteries last 10 hours of continuous use/play.. couple that with my battery recharger i bought last week, and /me is set.

now i can put an entire unabridged audio book on one cd, instead of the 15-30 disks i used to use..

Yeah, its a good price afaik. Ive got one of those flash ram 128mb players, it lasts about that long on 1 AAA battery  but you cant change the music on there without a computer.

I'm surprised the battery life is only 10 hours...is that with rechargables? Battery life on a discman is usually 24-50 hrs.

24-50 hours of continuous, non-stop use gorby?

man.. i suppose my does suck.. i thought i did well considering they were just 2 AA's

you know though, maybe this is it.. the MP3's were poor copies, i was forced to listen to them at full volume the whole time, just to hear the words.. maybe the batteries were eaten up faster?

Yes, higher volume = more battery usage (most times)

Usually, you know the electronic item is a battery hog if you use any store bought battery. Since you can't change the conductivity of the battery its self.

I love my GBA battery, I've had the thing for a year now and I've charged it once, and that was after I used it out of the box for about 15 hours. I have no idea how far the battery discharged before I opened it.

Mine uses 2 AAs as well, I think basically it justifies the cost of the unit.

mp3 format should be less drain on the battery...look at something like this:

http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?sku_id=0665000FS10039134&catid=10086&logon=&langid=EN&dept=19&WLBS=fsweb17

85hrs battery life for mp3 playback.

[edit]Yeah, the GBA battery is a thing of beauty, I play easily 10-15hrs and end up charging it once in a while when I play at night with the adapter attached.

but, this one cost 3 times as much as mine, maybe they tweaked the battery consumption a bit..

still as i said, the MP3's were very poor copies, maybe i should attempt a test with a good MP3 version ..

Were you listening to it on headphones?

Driving speakers takes a good deal of current...

Maybe you should try somthing like this. Then you can increase the volume through your car stereo and not burn up your batteries.

Hey, Orph, I'm Canadian...that calculates to probably twice the cost, not three times. As I said, that probably proves the cost of the unit though.
