PS2 has San Andreas, PC has Half-Life 2, Xbox has Halo 2...I can't help but think the GameCube will be dead by January.

cough Metroid Prime 2 this month, that new Zelda whenever?

Thank god, single player screenshots. How those MP shots over and over again bored me to tears... SP game looks much better visually. Lots of the MP stuff still seems to have that dull drab flat textured stuff. And featureless/flat textures look horrible with normal maps.

Heh, that new Zelda "whenever". I didn't even know Metroid Prime 2 was out this month...a pleasant surprise indeed.

These reviews just make me look forward to it even more  It sucks
that I agreed to go to a concert with my sister at the weekend, as Halo
2 hits the UK on thursday and I can't help but think my flatmates will
take advantage of the time I'm away!

Today is Sunday. It comes out Tuesday. I have no school Thursday. I don't need to go to school Tuesday. Can anyone guess what I'll be doing this week.

Despite a rather short campaign and a disappointing storyline, Halo 2 is an exceptional shooter that frequently delivers thrilling, memorable, and unique moments in its online, co-op, and single-player modes. - Greg Kasavin

This was a quote on Gamespot... WTF!

People also called Doom3 short and it was 20 hours or so. HL2 should be about that long and people will complain about it being too short, too.

Face it, unless a game is 60+ hours, it's 'short' for reviewers.

I'm getting annoyed with people bashing the Game Cube (Not here, but all over forums), something you have to remember is that because of Game Boy Advanced sales, the Game Cube is just extra income. Meaning, Nintendo isn't losing money. However, the Game Cube is an excellent system, the best gaming console that is out at the moment, not including handhelds. I say that because the amount of GOOD games ratio to bad games is far more overwhelming then any other console.

Online reviews are always misleading, especially GameSpot and IGN. Also, they're opinion, I mean there are people who think Final Fantasy X was good ... or Shellshock is a very good depiction of Vietnam or fun.

No doubt Halo 2 will be better then Halo 1 simply because of development time difference meaning it'll be fun, but there is no need for fanboyism.

I think "Zelda Whenever" comes out early next year (along with Resident Evil 4, the RE that actually looks good!).

KFS, blame Final Fantasy X, seriously.

I'm not bashing the GameCube...I'm just saying I don't think it will do terribly well this Christmas...

If it has a decent MP side then I don't think most people mind; however when you shell out for yey much money a "short" SP game you can't help but feel you're not getting as much as you could do and have done from something else... If shorter, less replayable games were cheaper, then fine. I guess we've all been spoilt by the thousands of free hours of Half-Life, then feel a bit silly when you play, say, Dawn of War and that's it after 10 hours!

That's true (we are spoiled), since if you remember, towards the end of its life, the SNES's games were about $80 on average. And those things were rarely over 4 hours.
But, I thought shorter games WE'RE going down in price, Painkiller was fairly cheap, as well as expansions.

But, Kage, you said: "I can't help but think the game cube will be dead by January." I was pointing out that it wont be dead ... probably ever. They'll retire the system before they begin losing money as an overall company. Or they might give more longevity with the GC, who knows? My only point in the situation was that the company isn't losing money, so, why would the console be dead or dying? Because the console isn't even being challenged right now with current games (performance wise), unless they're completely unoptimized (Mortal Kombat 5, speaking of which, I don't think Midway liked porting to the GC, or felt their bulk sale didn't come from it, since they didn't release Deception for the GC at all)

But in the case of Dawn of War, I found the price reasonable for a killer game, and the game length means I'll actually finish it someday.

I'd love to see at least a slight general drop in prices as well as more acceptance for the 8-12 hour game range. I love a Knights of the Old Republic now and then (took me 30 first time through, and even skipped a few quests), but I just don't have the time to spend hours upon hours on game after game. 12-16 is the real sweet spot, I think.

And what of a game like Ikaruga? The game itself only has maybe 20 minutes of content in it, but I've logged 12 hours on it already in various spaced-out sittings, and I still have no hope of ever getting through it on one credit in this lifetime. added emphasis on replay value (in single player or co-op, where applicable, not general MP) would be just as good in my book.

God, Ikaruga is so awesome.

I played the DreamCast versions and man, the Game Cube version is like Super Ante-Extreem in comparison.

Here's an example: My friend and I put it on Very Hard and actually passed the first two missions without using an entire credit. Childs play in comparison to the GC version. The other odd thing was, it looks identical to the GC version.

Only bad part was I couldn't read any of it.
