Hey all,
I made an altered version of the pak0 with new funny sounds and I'd like to share it with you guys but I wonder.
Would it be illegal to put the pak0 on the internet? I mean, it wouldent be like leaking the game would it?

Just release the sound files in a zip with the same names and directory structure as those in the pak file. Should someone install them into their HL directory, the game will use them instead of the ones in the pak file....I think

It's fine if you put up the sounds, but no not the PAK... which doesn't exist any more due to Steam

I think it could be illegal, but Valve probably wouldn't mind as they'll be busy with Half-Life 2, so I think you should do it.

Noones mentioned the fact that it would be 200mb+...
One way to do it is to put your sounds in a new pak file, called pak1.pak. You copy it to the valve folder, and the new sounds will replace the old ones.

Except there's no need to put the sound files in a .pak at all. Zip em, let the dl'er unzip, and bing bang boom. Why bother creating the .pak?
