Hi, I downloaded the Spirit of HL and was seting it up in worldcraft when I came across this.

Fill in all the details, like you did on the Game Configurations tab. When selecting CSG, BSP, VIS and RAD, make sure you use the ones in the 'spirit' subdirectory of your Half-Life folder.

But when I look in the spirit folder I can't find those files in there anywere. I can't even find the wad. so, what am i dong wrong..... THANKS!!

Are you sure? They are named as hlcsg, hlbsp, etc. What version of spirit did you download?

Edit: You should download and install spirit 1.2. Then download the 1.4-pre which only has the game dlls. Overwrite the older DLLs with this. leave everything else intact.

I did that I up graded to the 1.4 pre. But that doesnt help (I can not find the compile programs in the spirit folder. I even reinstalled.

Where was it that you seen that message, half-dude? I find it very strange that Spirit might need its own set of compile tools.

It was in the setup.html that came in the spirit folder here's the whole thing.

First, start up Worldcraft. It's probably a good idea to resize the window so that you can have Worldcraft open and read these instructions at the same time. Click on "Options..." in the Tools menu, and select the "Game Configurations" tab of the window that comes up.

Next, click the Edit button, then click Add in the window that comes up. Type "Spirit" as the name of your new Game Configuration, and press return.

The "Edit Game Configurations" window should now show Spirit in your list of Game Configurations. Close this window.

Choose Spirit from the pull-down list of Configurations, and now we can start filling in the details.

First, click the Add button to add a new Game Data file. Select spirit.fgd, which was installed in the 'spirit' subdirectory of your Half-Life folder.

The other fields can now be filled in. Here's what I wrote for each one. Obviously, if your copy of Half-Life isn't installed in C:\Games, you'll need to change these as appropriate.
If you want to fill in the "RMF Directory" field, go ahead... but it doesn't really matter.

We've finished with the Game Configurations tab now. Click on the Build Programs tab, and select your Spirit configuration from the new pull-down menu. (IMPORTANT: Don't forget to select Spirit at this point!) All the fields in the window will go blank, ready for you to fill in.

We're nearly finished now. Open the Textures tab, and click "Add WAD". Select zhlt.wad, which (like everything else!) is in the 'spirit' subdirectory of your Half-Life folder.

Well, you'll be pleased to hear that we've now finished with the Worldcraft Configuration window. Click OK to close it, and you can start making maps!
There's just one last thing to mention. When you're ready to test your map, type "-game spirit" into the Additional Game Parameters field in Worldcraft. This tells the game to use Spirit when the map runs.

It doesn't matter, spirit doesn't need specialized compilers. The engine is still the same which is all the compilers compile for. Everything else that is new is handles through entities which is not even part of the engine. They are included with the BSP and that is interpreted however which way.

Think of it this way: Do you need to use different compilers when compiling for different mods? Such as DoD or CS? (the answer is no if you were wondering.)

Just use ZHLT tools if you can't find these compilers they say you're "supposed" to use.

ok thanks Crono, guess its a bad tut or something which leads me to my next question, if I use spirit in my xenophobia mod then my maps have to have some codes or something in my mod folder that I put in the zip right?

and i hate to point this out, but.. wasn't fraggard correct? was not the HLtools,THE TOOLS? as he said?????

Dont know exactly what you mean... but it sounds like youre asking how to set the mods start map.

To set the map the game starts on (when you click new game on the menu) change the relevant entry in liblist.gam in your mod folder (open it in notepad, i think its obvious which one points to the starting map) If you dont have liblist.gam, copy it from another mod.

In future... try to make your questions a bit clearer, and post new questions in a new topic.

A bit of clarification on the compile tools... Spirit comes bundled with MHLT, which supports things like switchable texture lights. They arent neccessary (I use zhlt with spirit and its fine) but theyve just got a few extra things.

Maybe in the past, but neither the 1.2 installer or the 1.4 patch that I downloaded this morning come with any compile tools.

Ok, I also asked on the Spirit forms and they answerd my question. It seems as though I had to download the first version, version 1.0 to install the custom compile tools. The second version I installed didnt come with the version 1.0 files.

He should point that out on the site.
