My friend found a way around the Steam to get to play CS source and HL2. Ok, a guy I know called Marc bought HL2, and the lame idiot started asking me questions everytime he got stuck. This is the same guy that wants a second computer for downloads only because he thinks downloads will affect his gameplay performance. Umm, sure it will Marc

Anyways, he lent HL2 to my buddy Phil. I told him theres no way he can play since the files are locked.

Well, he's using Marc's account. Im assuming though that they cant both be playing at the same time, but still. Thats something Valve didnt think of.

Actually, if you could trick your version of steam to think that the main server is a personal server you set up, you can easily do this. Hell, even if you cut out the VAC verification check you could do this.

The fact that you can't both play at the same time is proof that Valve did think of it. In fact, the fact that you can use your steam account on any computer is one of the coolest things about it. Nothing new here.

Even in the event you got something like a bunch of 'public' accounts where people posted the information and such online or whatever, any group large enough to cause a problem would have already either a) become annoyed by constantly being blocked from playing by others or b) disabled when someone tried to do something stupid on the account.

I'm sure valve have methods in place to crack down on account sharing.

Does it work ? I thought that it was only a rumour. (I don't blame you trying it, off course ... just, in general)

I haven't tried it, but I've heard of it from a few people. Apparently it does work.

your lan code does work on the internet when you host a server, at one
account i can host a dedicated server, its connected ot the internet
and lan. so i join the server over lan on the same account. then i have
2 accounts in use and i can play on my server wiht friends over the
internet, works fine.
