At the very bottom of my compiling command prompt I get a File write failure error. Note that this only happens when I run vvis and vrad; just vbsp works fine. Just to make sure I kept the filename at 8 characters or less, but that didn't help. And yes, I also got several dozen [color=yellow]WARNING: Too many light styles on a face (-1440,-4512,-143) errors in the vrad section...they're probably related, but find it weird that it gets past all the warnings, proceeds apparently as normal, and then outputs that error after all of it. Any ideas? Any suggestions to fix the Too Many Light Styles error would also be appreciated (I tried searching AND it wasn't in the compile error tut, so...).[/color]

It wasn't there because the error message is in HL1 too. It means you
have too many lights with different names on one surface. Either name
them all the same (in each area) or leave basic light nameless.

First, the compiler claims that you have six direct lights. So there can't be just the light_env. Try calling up the 'entity report' in hammer to find out how man lights you actualy have.

Second, why are you running Vbsp twice? look at the last block of text in your log. whats going on there? compare this with the first block, and you'll see that they are the same. Look at your compile setup and figure out why this happend.

For the 6 lights: actually, there are 5. 4 are part of the stoplight-style race starter (like Nascar? I think? lol, the racing games at least :razz: ) and one is the light environment.

Ok...I don't see what's the same here. Also, if it helps at all I'm using Batch Compiler, and this is the only map that I get this problem with. The batch file is:

Okay... so if you know where the lights are, try naming them all the same thing, or not naming them at all and see if this fixes the problem. If not, try deleting all but the light_env.

I'm still confused though as to why you had Vbsp appear twice in your log file.

Uh...the only thing I can think of is maybe it's possible that it appends to the log file instead of overwriting it, heh. I'll do what you suggested with the lights. Actually I'll just delete them for now, because that seems more likely to work...

Amazing, getting rid of the lights got rid of a Too Many Lights error, heh. Later I'll add them back in and see if setting a Maximus Distance helps coughwhydidn'tItrythatbeforecough
