I downloaded the new update for the sdk, but now whenever I load up a map or even just create a new one with nothing in it it still lags.

I'm using a radeon graphics card if this helps.

Help appreciated.

Do you have the latest ATi drivers? Have you tried the beta drivers?

Haven't tryed the beta, but I got the latest drivers from ati.com. Didn't seem to help, but I restarted steam with minimal progs running and it seemed to help.

OK, maybe I was too fast to judge. Hammer starts off ok, but after about 5 minutes use freezes and lags. I've got undo level's at 10!

I heard someone who had it lagging a lot and he just restarted steam and hammer about 10-15 times and eventually the lag was gone.

Spec is:
Athlon 2500+, 512 pc2700, radeon 9600pro 128mb, and 2 80gb 7200rpm HDD's.

It seems to have stopped, I've been using it in offline mode for the last 15-20 mins with only fsecure running in the back ground.

if it wasn't for all his tutorials, he'd only have about 3 or 4 :heee:
as to the question.. the specs are more than enough, you have issues outside of hardware. i suggest you search for what is either stealing your resources, or search for alternate video drivers. i am almost positive its software related.

There's nothing hogging my recources, when hammer lags, it goes from using 25mb of my ram [no lag] to using 95 mb of my ram [freezes]. May this be a problem purely because of hammer?

well think about what you are saying then.. it only peaks at 95 megs, you have 512 to use, plus file swapping.. it is not freezing because of a shortage.

what you may need to do is, turn down your "undo's" to about 5 or less.. what i feel may be the trouble is.. hammer stores ALL your viewed textures in memory, you may be running low because you have to many texture sets, or you might be using the wrong custom sets and ruining the editors chances of running properly.
tis only a thought.

Undo's have been at 5 since I got the lag and didn't solve it. i've still been using hammer since I last posted and it hasn't been lagging, the texture sets are which ever ones are default as I have not touched them.
