Ok basically just get a Radeon 9600 or 9800 XT. They are good cards (better than the pro) and are about the same price as the pro. They are also the later models so any version of it you get will be fine for the next year or 2.
As well as this I believe you get a free copy of HL2! LOL! You have to pay for the shipping of it and it takes 28 days to arrive, but you can get a free copy!

X800 and X850? What are they? I though by X you meant 6 or 9 or 8 series...

I thought that they were basically the same card with different cooling
mechanisms. If it were me I'd go for whichever is cheaper.

X850 is only slightly more powerful then the X800, honestly if your going to spend that much money, then spend it on the newest Nvidia card (no ATI vs Nvidia thread plz) 6800 GT (I think thats what it is), because honestly, this card runs all games better than the ATI's X800 cards. Just read about it on any site that bench marks these cards, and you'll see that Nvidia came out on top!
Edit: BTW this is comming from someone who HAS the X800 XT PE

No matter how good their products are, Nvidia's customer support will always be a big no-no.

Me being a ATI person, I hate to admit that Nvidia is better, but their 6800 GT is slightly more powerful than the x800 XT, the x850 is ATI's solution to getting better frames than the 6800 GT. Right now we are in between generartions of graphics cards on both sides. Soon someone will release the next big step.
If you are willing to drop 500$ for a new gfx card, wait till the next gen cards are released, then you will be on top the next round, instead of "being behind".

you should get the 6800 GT SLI well that is if you want 2 gfx cards and to fork out on a new motherboard.

Thr 9600 XT is not better than a 9800 Pro! The 9800 Pro 256bit is the
same as an underclocked XT, and a 128 is a 9800 XT with lower clocks
and a slower memory bus. The X850 is a marketing scam! You'd be better
off getting a X800 Pro ViVo and modding the BIOS to an XT, it's very
simple. There are 100s of guides on the net about it.

That would be my choice if I were you, but you could always find a cheap 9800 Pro.

Hmm, the X850 is PCI-E right? And you probably have an AGP mobo, so the
current most powerful AGP card is either an X800 XT PE or a 6800 Ultra,
unless you count those $1000 3dlabs cards heh. You could as I have
said, get a X800 Pro ViVo and mod it to an XT PE, but the mod isn't
always successful and when it fails your card is ruined. So... you
should find an XT PE somewhere, they are hard to come by, so if you
cant find one, get a regular XT (lower clocks) which are easier to
find, or, failing that, an X800 Pro or X800 Pro ViVo.

No, the softmod isn't always succesful on newer cards. Instead of
changing the device ID to 40, it goes to 38, which makes it unusuable.
The pro default is 39. and XT PE is 40. The card will still work, but
the mod wont work and it will decrease performance quite a bit. A few
people at XtremeSystems have has this happen to them when softmodding
the X800 Pro ViVo.

It's a BIOS thing when it screws up like that. If you flash the BIOS back to original, the deviceid still remains 38.
