I searched the other postings, but there aren't any asnwers to this problem, other than just advice to go and fix leaks. Which isnt the cause of the problem.

I'm getting this error:

Processing areas...done (0)
Building Faces...error: material BRICK/BRICKFLOOR001A doesn't have a $bottommaterial
error: material BRICK/BRICKFLOOR001A doesn't have a $bottommaterial
done (0)

Here is what I know:

1) no leaks. no leak error, no pointfile. no leaks.
2) I've replaced the texture and this is the new error:

Processing areas...done (0)
Building Faces...error: material DEV/DEV_MEASUREWALL01C doesn't have a $bottommaterial
error: material DEV/DEV_MEASUREWALL01C doesn't have a $bottommaterial

Replacing the texture doesn't fix it, but it DOES let me know what objects are affected. There are quite a few brushes.

3) I am guessing that the original floor texture that i used as a default when I built these brushes, included properties that are not removed or altered when the new texture is applied, and that I have to either edit the VMF file or recreate the brushes.

Any advice would be welcome.

Thanks

BTW: The advice here on building one brush at a time... well, you can't say it enough times. I tried to be "efficient" and spent the past two days paying for it. Build each brush by itself and treat it with care. I don't carve, but clipping, rotating and flipping, lead to all sorts of wonderful little errors. -Thanks for the good advice here.

Alp-p to see if there is a simple error, if not I would go to whatever brush had that material on it and re-build it.

BTW: if you are getting errors when clipping, rotating, flipping, then you are doing something wrong

If I had this problem, I'd open up the Source Materials/HL2 GCF and search the VTMs inside and see what sort of material uses the $bottommaterial parameter, as that would give you a clue as to what's going wrong... though I think water has a bottommaterial defined, so if you have any in your level make sure you've made it properly!

sounds like your making a brush into a func_water and the texture
dosn't have a bottom texture (like the underside of water
textures).

I think your best bet is to delete the brush that is giving you the
error and remake it. or you could press the 'move to world'
button with that brush selected.
