I'm sorry to post this because this is a really simple problem but it's
bugging me. For some reason when I select my doors that circle
(the hinge piece) is not coming up, so now I'm using the same door over
and over via copy and paste. I don't remember having such trouble
on my previous map, is there a button I'm not pressing?

Did you tie your door to an entity? In this case you have to tie your
door to a func_door_rotating. Just select your door, press control+T,
and select func_door_rotating from the list. And then set the settings
you want.

the circle piece that you say is missing can be toggled on and of with the 'show helpers' button. end of the row, next to the 'run map' button.

I wish one of those things worked but neither did. Yes I did tie
it to an entity. The doors do work, just they rotate from the
middle. Somehow the first door I made for this map I was able to
get to move the hinge so for now I'm just copying and pasting that same
door but I'd like to fix this problem. Can't I also use the
Origin texture to act as a hinge? (though I wouldn't mind doing it the
normal way still)

I believe the origin texture DOES still work, probably technically as "legacy support".

First of all, can you see the cones that the light_spot entity makes? If not, click that helper button- if you still have nothing, then either your FGD or your copy of Hammer is b0rked and needs repairing. And yes, origin brushes still do work.

If you're using a func_door_rotating entity (with helpers on) then there should be a little circle at the co-ordinates specified by the origin property. If you can't see it in one of the 2D views, then set this to 0 0 0 and find the helper at the centre of your map. Similarly for the prop_door_rotating, but this has a hinge axis specified instead, so you need to set this to be where two hinges on the door would be by dragging the circles or entering it manually.

I'll try the light_spot in a moment, but I know that the for the ladder the circle was there to extend the ladder.

Yea, Light_spot isn't getting any helper either... So what should I
do? Move my map files and click Refresh SDK Content, then put the
map files back in the folder?

You could try that, yes. If you're certain that this is an application problem (you say you can see ladder origins but door origins?!) then sort out the application... You could also give your map to someone else to take a look at, to check there isn't something wrong with it (though I assume you get the same problem when making new maps?)

Well I refreshed the SDK and it works fine now. No idea what the deal with that was but its a thing of the past now.
