While playing Half-life 2 Deatchmatch after about 30 mins (sometimes
longer... sometimes shorter...) my computer freezes... This has
happened before, but I fixed the problem by getting the mobo replaced
(was faulty) now everything has been good until a few days ago when
some games have been freezing (HL2DM, Operation Flashpoint, Hammer  ,
etc..). I have tried different drivers, different ram, different video
card, different cpu, different cpu fan...

Specs: AMD Athlon XP 2400+ 2.0ghz, NVIDIA GeForce FX 5700 128mb, some epox mobo :|, 512mb ddr400

Any help much appreciated.

I've got about the same system config. as you do (except for a geforce
5200fx 128mb) and the very same games keep crashing on my machine
aswell; especially Flashpoint, which freezez, I press ctrl+alt+del a
couple of times, it unfreezes for a minute and then freezes back
permanently. I've managed to link the problems to the video
card driver. I assume you've just updated your video card driver just
like I did. That will learn us to buy any more nvidia products.

My Radeon cards have never failed to deliver when running HL2.

I do not push them by running at a higher level than they preset themselves so I am unsure if they could be made to fail.

My old machine, a P4 1.8 with 512 pc2100 ram and a 9000ati 64 meg card has run HL2 virtually all day before with no issues.

My new PC, has no trouble at all.

sounds to me like you have a heat issue, only because i am hesitant to blame nVidia.. that company has always delivered for me, before i bought my 9000. nVidia has never failed me either. :/

I do however prefer ATI now.

check for dust.

Andrei: Yep, upgraded my video card drivers but went back to the older ones because the newer ones were worse.. :S

Orph: Don't think it is a heat issue because my CPU temp hovers around
40-45C. Checked for dust.. a damn lot there too.. got rid of it and
still same problems...

the card could still be overheating. if the dust was thick enough to cause damage to the cooling fan that cooled the card. the cpu is not the only culprit when it comes to locking up your pc.

see if you have a temp monitor for the card.

On my old comp, it started to freeze up quite a lot and the graphics
would go all crazy, particularly if I was running games and it would
get worser the longer the comp was on. The gfx card fan was full of
dust and had pretty much stopped spinning. I think it had probs
overheated and gone bust because even after cleaning it out the problem
remained till I replaced it with a new gfx card.

This probs wont explain your problem, but I thought I would just
mention it because it seemed to cause similar probs to what you
describe.
