This is vile. I have a horrible problem with leaks from some cliffs generated by GenSurf. I have a link here

http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/godmetal/cannonball_problem.zip

Does anybody know how this one can be fixed? I've even tried surrounding all the walls with huge blocks, but it still finds leaks.

leaks cannot be "found" when they don't exist, placing blocks is a poor solution, but one that can work if you placed them correctly.

my suggestion, take blocks of sky texture and place them on the back side, overlapping them if necessary to stop up the hole, try to isolate the area, then remove a block at a time till you find and seal all the holes.

you could always put a box on the outside with a light at 10,000 and remove all light from the inside and physically walk in and find them.

you problem is multiple holes, not just one..

slaps loco across head with rolled up newspaper

No.

For a start, don't have the cliffs overlapping eachother, it'll ruin your r's.

I'd say your leak is coming from the rocks you created around the enterance to the cliff area. Put a solid brush over this area and if it compiles, then you'll know for sure.

Yup, theres leaks at both tunnel ends, doesn't seem to be any leaks anywhere else.

I would redo the tunnel using a 8 unit grid to make it easier to line up the brushes.

Thanks for the help guys. In the end I just gave up and started a-fresh. I have one major confession to make which will undoubtedly result in Alien_Sniper whacking me over the head again:

The grounds and cliffs generated by gensurf cannot be ungrouped. Anti-solution: carve tool. SORRY SORRY SORRY. I thought it was a good idea at the time...

Oh, and although this should be reserved for the maps board, what did you think of the rest of the map?

Try this for s**t's and giggles...

Right click on the rock formation and "move to world". Then each and every piece will be editable.

I couldn't really get a proper look at the map, because I don't have any textures, but from a look about in the 3d flat mode in hammer I came across a couple of things.

You have loads of brushes overlapping. Ideally, no two solids should occupy the same space. Your map will run far smoother if nothing overlaps.

I recommend you look up some tutorials on reducing r_speeds. There's plenty of room for improvement.

The map shows that you've plenty of creativity, which is great. Good luck with it.

How the hell do you double post, there's flood control on this board, stops me from posting twice within 20 seconds..?

By looking at the post times, I could have a solution to the double-post problem. At the VERC-Collective, they had a problem where if you posted and then refreshed, your post was duplicated. Could this be it?

Thanks for all the help, I've learnt a lot of very valuable lessons, even though some are obvious!

I would agree with most of what AS said, can't pick out much else really, some nice curved brushwork and texturing seems ok.

I would give the carve tool a miss, its usually more trouble that its worth.

Thanks for the suggestions. I've uploaded pics to here:

As you'll know if you saw my contest entry, r_speeds tend to be a problem for me!
