I am trying to replace the big ramp in this shot below. I have tried using the modeled railings like on the upper level, but when it comes to the descending parts I am having a bit of a struggle making it all fit. The model railings are preset to length and inclination and the textures just look weak. Any stair tuts available, or maps you can suggest to look at?

Usually the rise/run factor in hammer is a rise of 8 units, with a run
of 12 units, I think (no I know) all textures and models follow this
guideline of stairs, there is also a dev stair texture in the dev
textures that might help you. Hope this all helps!

There is a simple stairs prefab in the "HL2 prefabs" that you can use,
included with Hammer. Unlike HL1, these default prefabs are actually
pretty useful. You might have to clip a lot of the excess off, but it's
certainly a good base to start from. And as omegaslayer mentioned,
there's a dev_stairs texture you can use.
