Its a start. That counts for something.

I wanna see some models of items every map needs. Fire hydrants, Phone booths, Portapotties.. I wanna see power poles with damned transformers on them. So many city maps are missing the items overlooked.

Hey for some reason I like them! If you made a few modifications
to the cylinder on the left I can imagine it being a pretty snazzy
energy core type thing.

Good job anyway. Was it very hard to get started?

Good for a start.

How's the polygon count? Also, have you ported them to usable HL2 .mdl files? Is it easy to do with XSI?

Keep the good work up.

You convert the VTF (valve texture format) files, not VMT (valve
materials) files. There are plenty of apps out there that will let you
do this, and you should even have one in your sourcesdk/bin folder
named VTF2TGA.exe.

Looks like you are getting to grips with the modelling, but try and
vary the depth of your objects rather than having them the same
thickness all the way up. Make use of all 3 dimensions

I've no idea how to use it I'm afraid, I've always used a third part app to do it for me. I use VTFTool, available here...

I wish there was a prop request page. And a texture request page.

And I wish there were more modellers and texture artists around.

And, while I'm at it I wish I had a pony. :\

Nice, only a skin missing there.

Isn't there a way to get the full version of XSI for people that bought
HL2, or is it just something I've come up with in my twisted mind?
What the Snarkpitters listen to!

i dont think you can get the full version, but if you register (free)
and download the addon you can save your work and export to .smd and
stuff.

To NatUS;

You can get XSI 4.2 free from their website. Once you have the
program, itmay ask for a key. You must download the Valve
addon. Once you have that installed, you can export correctly and
save your work, however, renders will have "XSI DEMO" in big letters
all over them, this is why Softimage is a bunch of whores. So
your stuff looks bad with all that crap over it.

That's all.

So if XSI isn't a viable option, what should a beginning modeller use?

I've always used 3D Studio MAX and G-Max (Which is free and does the
job well in my opinion) so just from my own experience, I prefer those
over Milkshape, Maya, and Lightwave. Of course, it's all personal
preference. I suggest trying them all out till you find one you're
comfortable using.

XSI is a viable option. IT's a good program, don't get me wrong,
with lots of tutorials, it's just annoying a lot. I however, got
Lightwave for *cough*less than the list price*cough* and it's really
good, but can't extract the right files.

Since XSI is the valve official modeling program, I'd say give it
ago. However, almost all the modeling programs are the
same. They all do the same thing. It's not like one will
magically make you great. Pick one and learn it inside and out.
