yes it might be 58 teraflops where the Earth Simulator is only 35 (40 as i recall, but i'll go with what they say) ... but it has the inherent problem that it is a modular system - the Earth Simulator uses "1" processor . . . I have an article all about it somewhere ... anyway the point is: say you made one of those "rack stacks", but made it only 35 teraflops ... the Earth simulator would outperform it easily . I might get off my ass and find that article
ps. how are you going to fit 1000 racks into your special doom3 room? (hey, if youve got that much money to spend, you will have a separate doom3 room  )

The caldera / ibm super computer had a rumor to be 110 teraflops. its something like 280 amds, and 60 intels, if I remember.

Hmm, in our last lecture for 3D Content Creation we talked about the SGI(Silicon Graphics) workstations and older PC's. The SGI system had 10 2GHz processors, 1 TB of RAM and a minor video card. A P4 1.2 GHz processor with 256 RAM and a GeForce 2 GTS ran 3D Polygonal graphics better than the SGI workstation and it was 1/10 the price... Just something interesting.

"minor graphics card" ... lol maybe that's the reason for lack of performance, as well as probably have poor connectivity between the separate cpu's
