ok....ive been trying to get that "mist from the lake" kind of effect....however, when you use a func_smokevolume brush, over a water texture, the water apparently says to the brush, "get the func_ out of here..."

water without....

perhaps, you can boost the scale, it looks like the water has puffball smoke, now foggy water.

let me clarify i spose....the pic with the mist (func_smokevolume) has a nodraw brush with topside water texture removed from underneath it, and the mist works just peachy.....until i add the brush entity with a nodraw texture on it, water texture on top.....then the water dissapears...the pic where you see the mist is without the water underneath it....hope that helps.

My apologies Doc. The angle didn't clarify the issue.

Even though I now know no water is there, you cannot discern that.

As to the issue. When I was making HL1 maps, I noticed that some entities cannot occupy the same space and function (IE func_ladders cannot be placed over a func_wall). Are you sure the water is not touching the fog?

/ thought.

yeah, i thought of that too jon, but the fog brush is 1 unit above the water textured brush..... im at a loss.....unless its a line of sight thing, i dont know what it could be at this point.... :/ looks like its gonna be an either/or situation.....grr

Maybe its a zone of influence. Try increasing the distance from one entity and the other.

had it as far away as 16 units at one point.....to no avail....after 1 unit, it kinda loses the effect....the brush elevated makes for a bizzare looking "floating fog, and the water still just "dissapears".... :/

Doc B.... :dodgy:

EDIT>>> it just occured to me that this may be a HL2DM issue....///me investigates on different criteria

got it.....particle speed and mass settings were too high.... ...is my face red??

EDIT>>>> and yes....your brush has to be at least 1 unit away from the surface of the water brush to work....the con is there is that little 1 unit gap "between time and space" if you duck down into the water.....easy fix, but, piss-me-off-ish nonetheless....
