Is it possible to make HL1 (or CS, TFC, etc) maps with the Hammer that comes with the source sdk? If so, how? I can't get it to work (Warning gameinfo.txt doesn?t exist in c:\program files\steam\steamapps\my email\team fortress classic\tfc).
And every time I try to run Hammer version 3.4, Hammer crashes before it even opens. It crashes even after I re-installed it. Did valve do something screwy that wont let me use older versions of Hammer once the source sdk is installed?

Are you sure you got all the paths right? Many people seem to get them wrong  .

My setting seem correct.

Someone told me you can't use the Hammer in the source sdk to make hl1 maps though... is this right?

I was having the the gameinfo.txt missing error until I ran the game in question at least once before trying to edit anything for that game in Hammer.

Running the game for the first time appears to have created the file for me.

no.

that shouldn't happen. hammer 3.5 has been around for a while, give it a google. it has some improvements over 3.4, but whether it will solve your problem would depend on what's causing the problem in the first place.

no, i still use it on occasion.
