Not going to bother if it's Steam only, mapping with Steam is annoying and not worth it. If there is no regular client side file available then it's the end of my DoD days.

hmm ... that's sad, gorbachev
personally i dont mind taking into account the steam platform when im mapping, but then i only map for cs 1.6 in steam .. is it harder in dod? dod 1.1 would have all the wads that you need so i cant see any probs... just in cs 1.6 they took out some of the good maps that were in 1.5 which had great wads which i loved to use

It's worse than normal HL. Why would I want to work with an inferior tool? It looks crappier on Steam, runs slower, takes longer to join servers, takes up a lot more memory has nasty choices for in-game fonts and colours and a slew of other complaints I have. Someone on the DoD forums hinted that there may be a "WON patch" version, which is good for me, I just have to wait to see if that's true.

DoD going official wasn't the worst thing, it was the combination of DoD official and Steam being released around each other, and now it's getting to the "You can access you files if you want because I'm Steam and I won't let you." Time to wait for the WON patch, even though quite frankly that's a stupid excuse, it'd take him like 3 mins to put the files in an .exe and release it, they're the same things...there is less work required than for Steam.

I just played DOD 1.1
I rarely played 1.0, and played beta 2.5 for all of 20 minutes. so, as a dod newbie i still say dod 1.1 is mad, coz its a nice change from cs and ns. But im sure if i had been more active in 1.0 i would probly be pissed now

Also, another reason why mapping for steam is useless is that fact that you cannot use .wad files. I dont know if this has been fixed yet (might have been) but the wads were cache files, and steam had an error with that.

I downloaded the update, and now I cant see typed messages.. and the game is a tad quirky.. I think they need to roll back this update.

Aparently all you need to do to fix this is use the default skin.

1.3b was my personal favourite version. 3.1 was good as well. Ah the good ol' days.

1.3b and 3.1b were my favourites. Personally v1.0 and v1.1 would be my favourites if they didn't have the bugs with the particle effects and the general lag that never used to exist.
