The svchosts.exe processes required had a lot of priority. That made my PC slower. TuneUp 2009 recommended me to delete svchosts.exe. So I stopped all svchosts.exe processes and deleted svchosts.exe before my PC made an automatic reboot. After the reboot, my theme became the classic Win theme (now I have no other themes), I have no sound (Winamp tells me that there is a problem with the DirectSound driver) and I have to run the Task manager in order to run Explorer.exe. Everything else is find.
So, should I restore svchosts.exe or what?

Svchost.exe is part of windows. Here is some info on it. Perhaps next time a quick google search of the process name would be a good idea before you delete it. ;)

Actually I have no svchost.exe. But I do have svchosts.exe (with "s" at the end).

edit:
Ooops! My bad! I have read it "svchosts" instead of "svchost". Any way, it's in my Recycle Bin. And I can't restore it no mater how much I press "Restore" How can I restore it?

Uh ... you can replace the executable from an install disc, I imagine. It goes in windows/system32.

Try not deleting files without knowing what they are in the future ... especially if someone flat out tells you it's something your system needs. (Yes, I understand that you misread the file ... but to go out and delete the thing as a result ... if you did check several times and saw that you had "SVCHOSTS.EXE" running, then you should have come back and reported that information.)
Blame it on Microsoft, God does.

If your machine is still running slow, open up computer, C:\windows and delete the folder "system32" in there, it will make your machine run SO much better.

...No.

If your worried abut viruses:

SpyBot - www.safer-networking.org - Download it, run it.

CCleaner - www.ccleaner.com - Download it run the cleaning tool. Don't do the registry scanner. In fact never use any registry fixer/optimizer

Start -> Run -> "msconfig" - you may unckeck uneeded startup programs (limewire, chat programs, etc.)

I can't find the disk. My mother thinks that the OS was installed from a disk which doesn't belong to my family... I wander if I can use a copy of someone else's svchost.exe file. I'd like to try.

Time to bring it to a computer repair shop, they have the disks there if they're Microsoft certified.

Also if your computer is an OEM machine, (HP, acer, etc.) you may request the disk from the manufacturer.

I didn't suggest downloading the file(s) you need, because those generally get laced with viruses.

... and technically it's illegal.
Blame it on Microsoft, God does.

True its just one file. But at least your paying someone who knows what they're doing to get the job done right!

+ I can also give the file if you really want it, no viruses.

The thing is i don't know if you'd really be able to use it, as i have vista 32 bit.

EDIT: Nevermind, didn't read your other post past "nothings illegal in this country".

Any way, as long you stay away from the police, you can smoke. Don't worry, it's easy to stay away from them.

Visit this site: http://effects.drugsinfo-bg.org/ . Press EN on the upper right corner of the screen. This one scared me a little.

At the end, I have replaced the file, I have no problems with my PC (although I can't fully clean my Registry), everything is working fine.

It's funny how heroine 'other than being so addictive' isn't that bad for you. It isn't much worse than being hooked on vicodin for long periods of time.
Reality has become a commodity.

I'm surprised that you computer did boot after you deleted svchost.exe
It is actually core part of windows. I guess windows automatically restored it from its cache (maybe an old version of it) - without this file it just wouldn't start.
The simplest method for you to fix it will be installing service pack or any windows update which has svchost.exe as part of it. Just downloading svchost.exe from the net won't be that easy since there are hundreds of different versions of them for each windows version. I hope windows update still works on your computer. Disk with windows installation similar to yours would be very helpful in your case.
Try searching microsoft site for any clues:
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&source=hp&q=site:microsoft.com+svchost.exe&aq=f&aqi=&aql=&oq=&gs_rfai=
more information on svchost is here - but I'm not sure if it will be useful in your case
