Okay, I'm making a map based on the Hanedoara castle.

Here's some pics of the castle. I need some ideas on what to include inside. So far I thought of a dungeon, housing area's (bedrooms. dining rooms etc.) and a bell tower. Also any ideas on how to make the architecture would be helpful.

i think a really good texture set would be very important here. i dont fancy your chances of pulling it off with playable r_speeds if you 'build' the details.

good luck anyways.

i think, you should either..

1) build it and port it and not worry about the r's

2) download the taboo HL2 and build it anyways..

either way, a project of this size would be a waste of effort for the tired ol' HL1 engine.

/ 2 cents

I'll go with your suggestion Orph and build it for HL2, I know I am able to make it, keeping myself motivated to finish it is my main weakness.

There are many other castles and forts in Romania that are smaller and easier to make. Why did you choose the most complex one???

I like its gothic ways. Plus the fact that Vlad was imprisoned there during the wars against the Turk's.

I'm not sure how close to the original design you intend to be but if you're looking for ideas I would suggest a torture chamber, a grand throne room with red curtains, royal bedrooms with balcony view, a courtyard, some stables (isn't there a cow model or something somewhere), Gatehouses, even drawbridge and a moat if you want to go all out.

Just wondering do you have a particular mod in mind or do you intend to do it just for the fun of it?

Thanks for the ideas, I plan to do make this for HL2 DM when it comes out, but for now I'll make it for HLDM

How about adding a big painting of Vlad Tepes (aka Vlad the impaler aka Dracula)?

Well, if you do give in and make it for HL2, I don't see why you wouldn't take advantage of reflective surfaces  . Shiney (not too shiney) floors, rooms with mirrors for floors. long hallways with mirrors on both sides...some good effects can be done.

If anything, I'd suggest, even though this isn't in the real castle, I don't think anyway, you should have secret passages and enterences. Like pull on the candlestick over there and rotate the fireplace....but not as cheesy as rotating a candlestick and rotating the fireplace  .

Also, one other thing, this is more of a request I suppose. Please make the ceiling pleasent to look at as well as roomy, I just find mansion maps rather odd sometimes because they have this wonderful mansion and then it has like a 9 foot ceiling, it makes no sense whatsoever. Anyway, I suppose most of all is have fun with it
