So, whats your opinion on downloading/filesharing etc.? I vote #1, mainly because I think $30 a CD is a ripoff, I dont have that kind of money, and if I did, I'd spend it on something else, especially when I can get music for free on the internet.

No asking for or providing links for warez please.

What do $30 Australian translate to in UK? or US$?

I download a fair bit of music, but if I like the band and can buy the CD easily, then I buy it. Occasionally I'll download whole albums, but only if its really difficult to get their CD's in this country.

Don't you think its unfair to be listening to the music of bands and never support them financially? Listening to people's music isn't a right you have.

Number 2. All that I've downloaded, I'd never buy anyway or I went out and bought the album!

I don't generally download music - but if I do and I like it i'll definitely buy it. I just find it a hassle downloading on my connection (56k), it's quicker to order and wait for it to come through the letterbox

Monqui, the exchange rate youre using is out of date. Currently its around US$0.73 <=> A$1, which makes A$30 about US$22.

Reno, I agree that the artist should have some sort of financial support. However, there is absolutely no way of preventing music from being shared for free over the internet. Have you ever used pirated software (I bet theres not one person here who hasnt)? Same thing.

Difference in prices too - whereas I can justify spending ?9 on an album I can't justify spending ?700+ on a glorified MSPaint :/

None, I've only purchased a CD twice. The first or seconds Rammstein CD and Avril Lavigne's first CD. Both cause I wanted all the sonds on the CD.

I download because I dont want to spend 20 bucks for 1 or 2 songs. Sometimes 3 tops. Its not worth it. Besides, you can always just listen to the radio.

You can always listen to the radio - but we're a bit limited in the UK - it's either BBC Radio (the majority of which is pop - the only rock show being on at 12am on Tuesday night...not exactly convenient!), or crappy local radio stations that seem to be stuck in the 80s playlist wise

There's nothing wrong with 80s music you heretic! I find the wider and more diverse my taste becomes, the cheaper the CD's are

It's the big record labels you want to avoid, who only have a small minority of the best musicians out there..
