Could you explain that a bit more coherently? It's hard to follow what you're on about.

Press the camera button in the top left of the 3d line view and change the mode to '3d textured'.

If you a texture wad file, then go to... (any SIERRA Folder)... example:
If you want Half-Life wad files (textures), you go to somewhere like:
C:\SIERRA\Half-life\vavle\wadname.
Wads must always be in a "\valve" folder, or else the game will crash.
Counter-Strike textures would be:
C:\SIERRA\Counter-Strike\cstrike\valve\wadname.
TFC textures would be:
C:\SIERRA\Counter-Strike\tfc\wadname. (exception with the valve folder thing)
or
C:\SIERRA\Half-Life\tfc\wadname. (once again, and exception.)
Help ya a bit?
Your tfc\counter-strike\half-life whatever games are NOT in your VALVE folder. They are in the SIERRA folder. (read the pathnames I gave you  )
Wait... Alien answered your question... I think... About just your 3d colored line thing. If you're saying you can't find where your textures are, than this is one I am saying

Wha'ts not there... the folders or the wad? (you said you deleted Counter-Strike, if you don't half life, and you delete c-s, then you shouldn't have tfc!)

GCF scape works like pak scape... with one exception -- you EXTRACT files from the gcf, but can't IMPORT them into the gcf... pfft. Steam must be turned OFF to open up a gcf file.

There is no need to install stuff to your GCF files seeing as you can just put them in the file structure of the folder so that you NEVER MESS WITH THE DEFAULTS. It helps problem solve much better and you can always fall back to the working set of files.

if youre just after the textures, yes - you can also get the half life
textures (you need certain ones like the SKY texture, CLIP and so
on...) off your CD
This is the easy option, but it will work

I have no idea what your last question means - in what way are they NOT
going on the walls? Do you get to select your textures in hammer? If
so, can you apply textures to faces in hammer? After doing this, do
they show up in the 3D view? Or is all this fine and the problem is
they don't show up in the game after you compile?

On the top right of Worldcraft/Hammer, you'll see a button that says BROWSE.
Hit that  Now you can choose any texture in the wad file/s.
The next object you craete will have this texutre on every single face of that object.
On your left, you'll see several buttons. In the center of them, (move mouse over each button to check) is one called TEXTURE APPLICATION. By selecting that, you now can apply a texture to each individual face of an object, whether it's the same one or a different one.

For future reference, always give as much detail as you can when asking
questions - the way you word something can vastly change what you are
actually asking.
Anyway, sounds like you just need to change the 3D view from "3D
wireframe" to "3D textured", which can be done by simply clicking the
name in the corner of the 3D section and selecting the respective
option from the drop down list.
