Mods aren't going to be based off CS:S.

The SDK will contain, and I quote, "multiplayer examples"

Physicles: Alfred from Valve made that statement on the HL Coders mailing list.

Perhaps we shall see, amongst other things, a hl2dm? Without proper
maps maybe, but still something to base mods off of, and at least play.
Who knows. Still, it's a strand of hope I thought some people might be
interested in...

it looks a bit like valve have come to the conclusion that all the good multiplayer [HL]games came from the community, so why not just give the community the tools they need and let them get on with it.

I've been wondering for a while why people are going all big aboot this... Couldn't you just make multiplayer maps as if you were making a single player map (With multiple player_starts or something, or player_deathmatch if its on there)?

I believe we will see a Half Life 2 deathmatch in the next year. I don't map for any games other than CS, NS, DoD, Sven-Co-op, or HL SP. So I don't really care that match. We will get many mods that will be great anyways. I will be happy to finally have the capabilities to drive vehicles on enormous levels.

This is the thing, you'd need some sort of deathmatch function to
actually play maps with someone else, and Valve said that there is no
deathmatch function, just CS:S.
