I noticed something today when I went into Books A Million. It seems that illiterate apes new favorite place to hang out is the last place they need to be. I even spotted a few drunk self deprived college girls. A group of jocks were also playing marco polo in the philosophy section and I found a half empty diet coke can behind a stack of programmer books. Oh but it doesn't end there. There is also a plethra of whiny 14 year olds looking trying to catch a date with the bookstore workers. It also seems like more half minded books are being published these days. I saw some book called The Gossip Girls that were sitting on a stand. I bet that would provide a good read for the mentally challenged. I could go on about more but then I might end up putting my own head through a VCR if I do. It must've been the first time I walked out of a book store and thought to myself "wow I could've learned more in a gym locker room."

It's spelled "Intellectual Sanctuaries" But yeah, our society is full of numbnuts. AND you can learn plenty in a locker room, like how the jocks you seem to hate will react to certain things, like having a cup of urine thrown in their locker or something.

I remember when I first started going into books a million. The place was real nice inside and quiet and had a lot of really good books. Today though it was dirty, loud, and I couldn't find anything I was looking for.

That book store sounds like it takes hobos in.

I know most books around my area (not used of course, those are in vintage shopping centers) are pretty damn nice. B. Dalton is more of a walk in walk out get-the-f**k-out-of-the-store kind of place. Borders is just to expensive to give a second glance, so that leaves (pretty much) Barnes & Noble. Every one I've ever been in has several reading areas and is generally quiet. They have help centers where the people working there like what you like (most often).

When I went looking for the Zombie Survival Guide, the guy who helped me was great about it. I think he wanted to buy a copy too, because when the end comes he'll need it. The programming/computer books area is rather helpful, I like how they separate by operating system (if applicable). Such as, you wont find s**tty VC++ books with the Unix C++ books. Overall, the only thing I don't like is the price of most books, way to expensive. I'm sorry, $35 - $50 for a decent sized book is ridiculous. Why is it that ?Marvels? 10 year anniversary costs $50 and the entire lord of the rings trilogy (hardback) is $60? Marvels has FAR less content, even if it is amazing awesome content.

The problem with Books A Million at my mall is that it is one of the main enter and exit areas of the mall. So you get all kinds of trash and dumbasses walking through it every minute.

It's spelled "Intellectual Sanctuaries"
That's ironic. It should be "spelt", not "spelled".

Actually, I beleive both are correct.

The dictionary I have here says:
Spell: vt. Give letters in order; read letter by letter; indicate, result in (spelled or spelt pt./pp., spelling pr.p.)

Yeah, we had this debate before - I thought it was spelt but either way is fine. Spelt still sounds better to me.

I think this may be an Anglo / American difference in the use of the
words. I was always taught that spelt was the correct word to use in
that situation, but certain American lexicons only contain the word in
reference to a type of wheat.

So, I'll let you off this time.

You're problem is that you're going to a mall! Malls, for some reason in America, only seem to attract the dregs of people with absolutely nothing better to do in their lives than simply BE AT THE MALL. Go find a book-store outside of a typical mall (even if it's a strip mall, those are fine since they don't conduce traffic).

The only problem with book stores now a days is that there aren't enough of those comfy leather sofas, to sit and read book on

Perhaps because bookstores want to sell books, not let oafs come and use their shop as a public library?

Just a thought...

I must admit one of the better UK book shops it Ottakers, they normally
buy out large-ish shop spaces and put a coffee store in, and put the
computer books on the top floor where no-one goes much,

they also have reading areas which are quiet, and least they havent got stupids in there

Here at the SnarkPit we seem to have a group of UK-ers who spell things correctly, and a group of americans who spell things correctly.

Our boosktores in Missouri, US have chairs and couches and s**te all over the place. Whlie I love to read the books and not buy them, I think its quite inconsiderate when someone else does it. I don't want any USED books at NEW prices.

That post just makes you seem bitter and full of yourself. You give out
about whiny 14 year olds, and then you complain about finding a half
empty diet coke can behind a stack of books. Since you're obviously so much
better than everyone else, use that massive brain of yours to find a
solution. Good luck when you encounter a real problem.

I never said I was better than everybody else or that am super smart. Hell, I spelled intellectual wrong. I'm no better or smarter than anybody else on this site. You can't sit there though and tell me you would'nt be pissed about something like that though. Also I think I have a right to complain because the next closest major bookstore is an hour drive away.
P.S. Complaining about things this time of season is more fun because everybody else is so damn happy and joyful. Bah Humbug.

It just seems a little harsh refering to others as illiterate apes and
challenging the mental capacity of those who have different taste in
books than you. When you get a little bit older you'll learn to let all
these insignifigant things slide, and you'll be a better person for it.
Either that, or you'll arm yourself to the teeth and take out several
libraries, bookstores and museums before dying in a spectacular
gunfight with the police.

No you aren't. What you have to realise is that most books are written
for idiots (just check out the ammount of trashy novels churned out
about SAS or soppy, pointless love stories, that make their way onto
the shelves. Personally I don't care if such people have infiltrated
bookstores; buying a book, like most things in life for me, is an
in-out 1 minute experience.

If you want to take action against these people, rally the nerds and get them to hang in dole offices, churches and macdonalds.
