Aren't these just models? Adding a prop_static and searching for the correct model should suffice.

What exactly did you try then? We can't say what you did wrong when we don't know what you did...

Everything that looks small and fiddly in CS:S and HL2 is most likely a prop_physics or prop_static.

Just whack a prop on the desk or tabe and browse for a monitor model. Then adjust it so it looks good and if you use a physical prop make sure that it isn't stuck inside anything.

... or prop_dynamic. You'll want your monitor to be a prop_dynamic, so you can break it. Though how you show an image on it I'm not terribly sure yet (other than following our camera tutorial here), but turning that off will just involve an OnBreak output on the PC case (also a prop_dynamic).

what i mean is for all the components to fly out when they are damaged. also the computer screen and the mouse etc...there are also other ones the same eg the progector and the plant. when i add a prop_dymanic the model just dosent show up. I thried a prop_static but it wouldnt break apart... so i dont kow what to do next. I think i may be using the wrong computer case etc so what should i do?

Is there some console command that lets you see what model the object you're looking at is? That would sure be handy...

i might just do what urbanebula said to do, it dosent really matter about the detail for the mean while but if someone has a solution it would be grand.

Lep just told you, it's a prop_dynamic. Use the monitor as a prop_dynamic and it'll break like a charm

I dunno man, but I'm certain a little experimentation will go a long way! Just use both and see which works better. I'd assume it should be prop_physics as I don't think it breaks into smaller parts or plays animations...

Test with a prop_physic perhaps?

Also, did you fiddle with the viewable distance (or whatever it's
called exactly) of these models? The sphere that pops up when you
select your model? Make sure it's 0...

Reading the compile log can help. I once put in a model as a prop_static instead of a prop_dynamic. When I compiled it it said

"Error, blah blah blah, combineapc_destroyed is a prop_static when it should be a prop_dynamic!"

Or something to that effect

i was making a 3d-skybox but the props i was using didnt scale down at all, so i had a small project building about the size of everest

Well, if you check out the official page regarding 3d skyboxes it says you can't do that. And...no, you can't scale down props...at least, not without some dabbling in a model editor.
