1: Make a brush where you want your water.

2: Texture that brush in a water texture. (filter for water in textures)

3: assign the nodraw texture to all sides except the top.

4: assign a cubemap to the top face if your water appears glitchy. (fixes mine)

Hope that helps.

For the cubemap: does it matter exactly where to put it (as long as it's above the water and not too close to any other brush)?

Yes. If the player is going to be standing on that surface, you will want the env_cubemap to be at least 64 units above the ground for the
most correct-looking cubemaps.

What you need to do is in your texture browser you need to look for the nodraw texture. In you filter type nodraw. It will give you one or two textures called nodraw. Apply this to all sides of your brush that you are making into water except the top. The top needs to be your water texture. There ya go.

ROGER THAT 3: WHEN YOU HAVE THE WATER MADE, GO TO TEXTURE SEARCH AND TYPE TOOLS IN THE FILTER. FIND "NODRAW" THEN MAKE A WALL ON EACH SIDE OF THE WATER U MADE AND A FLOOR FOR THE WATER ALSO BUT EITHER MAKE THIS ALL INGROUND OR MAKE WALLS OF THE NODRAW WALLS OR IT WILL LOOK ODD. (HOPE THAT IS SPECIFIC ENOUGH

THIS TOPIC WAS FINISHED DEC 15TH. IT'S BEEN ANSWERED TOO, SO
THERE REALLY WAS NO POINT IN POSTING IN THIS TOPIC AGAIN AS
SNARKSEPHIROTH SAID EXACTLY WHAT YOU DID. AND SEE HOW ANNOYING
TYPING IN ALL CAPS IS? Look, lower case and this thing called
grammar make your posts so much easier to read.

NUB, the best way to get on the good side of the Snarkpit is to post images with huge file sizes.

THIS IS SO f**kING EASY

take the block tool and make a block that you want to be the water.....

after that make the texture of it "nature/water_canals_waterbeneath_clear".

(thats at least what i have)

than click at the "apply current texture" button and now it must be water.

than run the map and: tada.....WATER
