This is a simple question, but I haven't found the answer after reading through all the relevant forum posts and tutorials.
Is it necessary to seal the map when 3D skybox is being used? I
mean, does the 3D skybox seal the map already, thereby negating the
need to seal the map in the actual map area?

a sky texture, acts exactly the same as any world brush.. if you have a leak, you have a leak. its not leaking through the sky, if thats what you are asking.

Short answer: yes, you must seal the map and the 3d skybox.
Long answer: The 3D skybox is just another small area outside your map filled with 3D geometry. It doesn't physically surround your map, but merely displays what is effectively a camera view from inside that box wherever it finds the appropriate portal sky texture on a brush. Thus, sealing only the skybox but not the main map will still result in just as much a leak as ever before.

Sorry, it's difficult to express what I mean exactly. But that's not what I mean.
Let's say that I have an open field (a single brush at the origin) with
a 3D skybox built around it (in another area of the grid, of
course). Do I still need to enclose the field with another box of
is the 3D skybox sufficient?
