In the properties of the model, go to the flags section and select
"start asleep" if you want them to stay still until the player bumps
into them or blows them up. If you want them to only move for the
gravity gun, select "motion disabled" and "enable motion on gravity gun
pickup".

OR if you NEVER want them to move, you can make them a Prop_static.

BTW, if you could tell me which sky texture that is that has a big sad
face in it, that'd be cool. I'm going to use that for my next map.

use the "select face tool" and select one side and click the FIT button. that will make the tex as large as the box it is on. PLZ mark some correct answers.

It's a very useful thing to memorize all the keyboard shortcuts in the beginning. It really speeds up mapping.
Some of the most useful ones:
Shift-S: select
Shift-A: texture application
Shift-E: entity
Shift-B: brush
Shift-X: clip tool
Shift-V: vertex tool
If that's all you can remember, that'll still save you loads of time in the long run. There are plenty more. Also, I found the preset zoom settings (chosen by pressing the number keys on top of the keyboard) and Ctrl-E (center select object in all 2D views) extremely useful.

what is this, lets see just how many questions we can cram into one thread before an admin arrives?
most of this is searchable, PLEASE use it as it was intended.

5LUG, there is a menu in Hammer called "help" (at the top of the screen, if you need, er, help). I suggest you use it before asking any more questions here.
