Hey guys, i've searched the forums and i cant find anything on this. When I make water in a 'swimming pool' type pool everything is fine. but when I paint the geometry to be bumpy uneven like in a river my water turns invisible. but when i go under water, its fine. can anyone help?

Did you use a displacement surface for the water texture? That cannot be done. One of the limitations for the gorgeous HL2 water is that it can only be flat and exactly horizontal.

no i didnt displace the water texture. first i made a dry river bed. then i placed perfectly square water brushes(all nodraw and nature/canals_2 on top) and place it in the bed. then when i run the game the water is invisible but i can still bullet splash it and jump around in it. does that clear things up a bit?

You have a leak, load your point file map>load pointfile

once that is fixed your water should show up.

What I normally do in these kind of situations is create my round/other type of pool, and build a square box around it which the player can't see, and which "holds" the water.

So you have your box which you'll turn into water, and place the pool-ish thing inside the box/water.

No need the do anything fancy, just a plain box around the water.

Like Philips says: "Sense and Simplicity"

Hope I helped

*Shoot me, forgot to make it an possible answer, do it again  *

Also note that displacment maps dont work like solid walls, you need a
brush under the map sealing off that area, I always just slap a brush
with the NODRAW testure on all sides and call it a day.
