Basically you can turn you x-box into a PC (under the table typ of
thing), you know install programs such as an mp3 player or anything
else (movie player maybe), but its nothing the xbox doesnt already have
 . Personally I have no desire to do that, as my current computer out
weighs the xbox in playing/ripping media files. With the x-box you tend
to get a little distortion in the music files you rip.

If I had an X-box I'd definitely chip it and insert a bigger HD. The
fact that this one doesn't need soldering only makes it even better.
How much does it cost?

I might do it to my Xbox once I get either a new one (my current one is
on its last legs for gaming it seems) or get an Xbox 2, but for the
time being I'm keeping mine standard. I've heard lots of these chips
disable Xbox Live and I wouldn't wanna lose that for now.

Plz ur all teh n3wbs on this subject, I can tell instantly. I am teh master. In US it isn't illegal as far as I know, so Orpheus do it at will.

For the purpose of this post, I am in international waters, therefore not breaking any laws

Ok first things you need to know- that chip is a bunch of crap. Anyone who uses that one should be shot. The X-ecuter is the best. It allows you to still use Xbox live on your non cracked games. Secondly, you any good at soldering? Its quite an extensive modification that you have to perfom on the inside.

Unless you are good at soldering I suggest getting your Xbox sent off to get it chipped. You'll find many places to do this, including (highly likely) your local market or semi dodgy looking Xbox retailer.

The Xecuter (check here to see the chips) comes with a special bios CD. Cunningly enough, if you have a chipped Xbox with this Chip (as far as I know) you can chip others just by lanning them together. It comes with a whole new bios and menu. Performs just like windows XP Media edition- plays DVD's, DivX files, anything, and you don't need a DVD remote. Also you can copy games onto the Hard-drive to make them run faster. But again seeing as your in the US, your Xbox is inferior and equipped with a smaller HD than European versions. Therefore I suggest installing a new hard drive.

But yer its obvious no one else in this topic has a clue. If you wanna know anything else I suggest emailing or PM'ing me.

P.S. Xbox 2 isn't having a Hard drive.

Last I heard that still wasn't confirmed Myrk, but there was talk of 3
different versions of the next Xbox system including a lite version
without a hard drive.

Maybe this could be true, I'll have to do some research and find out. I think I hear also that its being released later this year with the PS3.

Hmm, you're actually okay here because this server is hosted in Australia and mod chips are currently legal there (I think that's how it works, anyway?)
However, in the UK the "sale, advertising, use, or possession" of mod chips is apparently illegal, and I think at the end of the day the legality rests on whether the mod chip in questioned was designed to h4x0r games and generally breach the DMCA.

Thats the problem with making consoles into computers. Everyone
has a computer. Everyone can modify their computer.
Everyone who owns an Xbox, owns a computer. The greedy bastards
just dont want you messing around with their hardware.
