Two runs back I was on my way to Phoenix. At 4 a.m. a vehicle containing 5 people loses control because of the recent snowfall. The occupants slide off the road, apparently unhurt. The occupants vacate the SUV and walk back up to the roadway they so recently left. The occupants decide to use their cell phone to report the accident. The occupants do not realize that they are standing in the roadway. 3 of them are killed instantly and 2 are sent to the hospital in critical condition because.... they were standing in the path of an oncoming semi tractor-trailer rig.

/Me has to wonder, how many people are killed each year because of the myth that the SUV is so tough???

In my travels each year, about 80% of all the vehicles i see in the ditches and whatnot are... SUV's

Their problem wasnt that they thought their SUV was indestructible, their problem was they were dumbf**ks who stood in the middle of a road and didnt notice a truck was coming.

standing in the road, was just a continuation of their stupidity. their stupidity began with the thinking that their ride could cope with the snowfall.. which is a fallacy beyond recognition.

what really tweaks my goat is that there were 5 people there, and not one had sense enough not to be in the road. you can blame the driver for sliding off the road.. he was stupid, but 5 people???

I hate SUV's.....my reasons why:

1) They hog the road

2) You cant see past them up ahead for obsticles (you would never see a
dead deer in the road until the SUV swurved out of the way, leaving you
split seconds to make a decision to how you will avoid a crash)

3) They consume gas to no ones end, it costs apox 60$ to fill a tank of
gas here right now, and the owners are stupid for paying that much.

4) They are too big, this ties into the fact that they hog the road,
but also that they are too big to cary around a family of four, but
still too small to haul around construction materials...like a truck
(IMO its okay to have a truck, because they are actually useful in the
heavy lifting department....unlike SUVs)

5) They drive like crap, my parents own one and I had to drive it to
drop off/pick them up at the air port, there is no sence of control
over the car (you feel like your flying through air...bad IMO because I
like to "feel" the road when driving), the brakes shutter even on the
slightest tough, and you feel like your going to flip over when you go
around all curves!

6) Who needs that much safety? I guess in orph's case it was handy, but does a person really need 6 air bags per passenger?

These are my reasons...I drive a 92 celica, so just from that you know my opinion about all other cars.

I think its just that alot of people dont think 'it' can happen to them.

when some people are in controle they dont doubt themselves, thats why
some people wont sit in the front of planes becuase the back is more
safe, yet they have no problem talking on their cell phone while
zipping down the highway at 80 mph.

cell phones and such is a matter of perspective. what i really want to see is a commercial. a realistic commercial depicting the average joe in an average day.

joe is talking on the phone while driving. all the while he has the idea he is driving safely. in reality its showing what he is really driving like.. cutting this person off, not signaling for this or that. and generally being.. normal.

by the end of the commercial he has his inevitable accident.. he is rushed to the hospital and just before he goes to sleep from the anesthetic, he notices......... the surgeon is talking on his hands free phone and the guy gasps and goes to sleep..

THAT would be such a cool commercial.

They're thought to be the suburban tank, yet people are more likely to die in an SUV
accident than in a normal car. Not to mention the fact
being in an accident with one, when your in the other car, is also
likely to be more fatal. Really they should be outlawed in cities and
towns. It also seems that everyone who drives one is a complete ass
hat. I generally find slowing right down when one is sitting right on
your ass is a good way to get revenge, as they are just itching to take
off.

someone should make a TV show that puts cars head-to-head.

my 82 camaro would keep me fairly safe from any SUV, i would think. the people in the SUV, however..
