Hey all, have'nt been around in awhile as I am working on a low budget horror film in Sacramento. Gonna be gone another three weeks or so, but I came home this weekend to relax. Anywho, the Gamers Diner has been upgraded to a full blown T1 line and the speeds are screamin. I ping at around 19 in the server. It's hosted by barant.com in Orange County, Ca.

New IP is:65.115.120.193:27015

Personally, I disagree.. The more the merrier, as long as... they are worth it.. (hint, hint)

/Me was worried Juim, your server was down so long. Tis one of my favored ones too..

/me hopes ping is better now,not that it was bad before.

BTW, if you would learn to show up more often... I was in L.A. twice in the past two weeks.

Dammit, I've been playing CS:Source for the last 2 hours, would have
fragged with you Orph had I known. Anyway, I'm somewhat free at the
moment, and I think Hydro's playing on the diner.

Which map? and did you really expect me to hang around for 1 hour and 12 minutes twiddling my thumbs?

I dunno.. this is a great server and still I cannot entice people to play.

me is beginning to wonder if.... its not the server, but the company you'd be fragging with. :

Wow, a server in Los Angeles, right in my own neighborhood. I'll join the game if it's not too late tonight when I get back from work.

I was just on the server, and it was empty. One stranger did join
the game, but left in less than a minute. We never made contact.

On a related note, when you join a new server, with lots of new maps
that you've never played before, what do you do? How do you get
yourself familiarize with the map's layout? How do you find out
all the spawn locations without just dropping a grenade next to your
foot and kill yourself over and over? Is there a console command
to make the player jump to the next spawn point?

I feel dumb if I just get thrown into a new map and get killed over and over because I don't know where all the powerups are.

All part of the challenge Satchmo. Playing new maps can be a bit
frustrating, but I usually find the most fun is in mastering the map.

DM_Pit2 is right here at snarkpit, get a copy and learn its secrets. Its one endless trap to ensnare the other fraggers in.

As far as new maps, copy the list and attempt to locate the maps elsewhere ahead of time. HL2 has a browser option just like hammer. You can filter out all the maps and look at the servers just hosting a single map name.

Afterward, you can roam around the maps by loading a LAN game and learning the nuances of the maps structure and layout.

BTW, what was the pings? mine hovers at 75-85.. I can definitely deal.

what was the pings?
The server is located in Orange County, California. I happen to live right on the border of Los Angeles County and Orange County, so I got some of the best ping. I think it was 46 last night. It's just as good as if I were running the map from my LAN.

I've gotten as low as 9 ping on servers (not LAN). On a fast server I usually get upper teens lower twenties.

Wow, those are fast pings. I've never personally seen any pings lower than forty.

I was just wandering around the server tonight, but unfortunately no
one was on. Some random dude joined the game, but we were running
around this huge map and never saw each other. I did hear him (or
her) fire a few Magnum shots, but I don't think they were aimed at me.

It did get my adrenaline flowing though. I was all geared up
(armor charged up to 200) and loaded with weapons and ammo when he (or
she) signed on. It would've been a huge slaughter if I ran into
the other player with my crossbow or combine rifle energy ball.

If anyone is interested in fragging on this server, we better make some prior agreement so we can all meet at the same time. Otherwise, we'll just keep on missing each other.

Should we pick a time that's convenient for everyone interested? We should pick a standard time (i.e. London time). I will be free on June 11th (Saturday) at 16:00 London time. If anyone is free, meet me at the server.

Tis your computer then, not the maps silly. :/

I have seen pings in the lower 20's but rarely actually connect at such.. My ping at Juims is in the 70's-80's and I can live with that.

Pings got up for many reasons.

1) your upload is to slow. (assuming you have broadband)

2) someone is downloading the map.

3) to many hops between you and them.

Sadly, I have never found a server right here in Arkansas.. I do not think anyone but me plays HL in the whole state. :/
