ffs please be joking

Make a floor. Put an info_player_start entity above it.
Then make walls. Then make a ceiling textured with the "skybox"
texture. Then compile it.

This will help you: http://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Main_Page

More specifically you want this though: http://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Your_First_Half-Life_2:_Deathmatch_Room

Oh and a tip of advice, don't release your first map.

I take objection to that!

What I think he's trying to say is. Don't release your first map if it took you less than a couple of hours to finish.

So? Clipping tool is introduced in 2nd paragraph

I most of the times begin my levels by placing a cube somewhere and making it hollow and building everything around it...

i most likely make funny brushwork, and then think about what the hell
i can place around the funny brushwork, then i start a new map.

The "hollow" tool is silly, but nondestructive. All it really does is separates the new mappers from the old ones.

If you still use it... you need more practice.

I see nothing wrong with those whom use it.

The only problem beginners might occur, is the hollowed box to be
grouped as they don't know how to ungroup it... but hey - It is
irreplaceable when doing a lazy-man skybox

Delete this thread please, its formatted incorrectly, for God sakes man
the thread is titled "!!!HELP!!!", giving no indication to what the
problem is. And Mr. Gone247 probably didn't even search the internet
for a beginers tutorial on mapping. Nor do I doubt hes even going to
stick around the site and use it, given the name he gave himself.

*asks: Where is Lep? He usually takes care of these mishaps

And his reasons for doing so far outweigh the time he is away from the site.
