Wow. I got banned from everything Source for no reason at all. It said
I was hacking and I wasn't. This is very frustrating. I just made a
thread to vent my anger on VAC now. Why is it that all these hackers
can hack like crazy and not get banned. But a person not hacking get
banned. This sucks. I sent them an email but i doubt they listen to
their customers complaints. This is bulls**t. Have you guys ever hear
dof someone being banned that shouldn't have been.

Nasty indeed. Are you sure you didn't have any cheats installed? I
don't think you have to be running them, but just have them present on
your computer. Do you have a relative/friend that might have put them
on without you knowing? What exactly did it accuse you off, any
specifics? I've never heard of anybody getting done without good reason
before

In your email I hope you didn't just run your mouth off saying how much
"valve sucks" or that their "anti-cheat is gay"; that will just make
you sound like the hundreds of kids out there that get caught cheating
and then deny it, and probably won't get you anywhere.

A guy on the FF forums had this happen, but he got banned before we ever found out if he got a solution.

as ReNo pointed out, what you have on your comp can get you banned, even if you're not using it at the time. you may plan on never using it, and only have it there to see what it is the hackers are using, or whatever, but still, clicking on links that crash a comp for 'fun' can have severe side effects.................

someone could have just used your account if they knew your login &
got your steamid banned. that seems the most likely event.

It seems though, if you're VAC banned, it only limits you from playing on VAC servers. You can still play on insecure servers though.

It claims you must buy a new copy, under a new account, or the new one will be banned too.
steampowered said:
There are no "false positives". We will not un-ban you for any reason. You are responsible for your account regardless of who used your account.
It also says that it could take months for a ban to go through. Meaning, if something happened in February, it could have just been banned ... I guess to mess with you, since they log it immediately.
Evidence:
steampowered said:
We will not disclose the cheats that were detected running on your system or the date and time the infraction took place.
This is a bit asinine though:
steampowered said:
You must remove cheats from wherever they were installed. If you do not know where they were installed, then you consider a reformat of your hard disk and clean re-install of your operating system and Steam.
It seems like it doesn't matter if it's your fault or not, since, if someone else did it, it's your fault that you didn't "protect" the account.

The only good news is that if it isn't a source game (hl2 series), then the ban goes away after a year ... but I doubt that's the case here.
Blame it on Microsoft, God does.

Yeah, just like that time people got banned for having the winamp mod installed, or that time when they banned everyone who had a certain ASUS graphics card because the drivers for it replaced a dll file by default, or when they detected anti-cheat programs as cheats themselves and banned a bunch of server owners... Just because they say its perfect doesn't make it true. They have made mistakes in the past, will make mistakes in the future, and are probably making mistakes right now. The thing is, theres no way for us to audit the system to prove or disprove it since they don't disclose the reason for banning you.

See? THAT's the reason i was so "anti-steam" in the beginning. Because they have absolute control of your software even though YOU BOUGHT IT! If i pay 50 bucks for thier game, I expect to be able to do whatever the f**k I want with it. I used to be able to edit my PAK files and make it so my corssbow would shoot skeletons, now I can't. It's stupid.

I dont hate ValVe, but i sure do hate steam. Look at how ridiculously much resources STEAM uses too.

You didn't have to edit any pak files, you could just put the
replacement models into the correct directories outside the pak and it
would work (just like maps) You can still do the same to an extent
at least; I use one of azelito's custom models as my CS:S USP, and I
know people that use reskinned HL2DM models.

If you want to be able to play in cheat free environments you need to
have limitations in place though. It used to be that player models in
HL could be replaced with ones that had lots of huge spikes protruding
from them. This would mean that enemies would have parts of their
models sticking through walls, giving away their position. Having giant
bullets, like your crossbow skeletons, would also be an unfair
advantage in that it makes it much easier to spot the direction of
incoming fire.

i used a model with a glow sprite attached to it to replace the nail.mdl in tfc. not to see enemy fire, though i couldn't miss any spies trying to take out an sg, but because it was just sooo pretty. i eventually replaced it with a small star wars x-wing fighter, but i suppose it's about time i tried something new again.

Hah, that's awesome!

Only custom models I used were the sexiest models I could find for
CS. Lately I've taken up modeling, and my next goal is to use one
of my own

This thread is being changed to a "Lets make custom models to put in CS / HL2DM"

Which on a side noe would be pretty awesome if someone could make
models of good looking girls and use them as CT and T models
