So I have a cs:source map, and I have finished the light tweaking. The current
lighting is beautiful if I do say so myself, but it has a problem. In
some parts of my map it is just too dark to see the opponents.

In hl1 I believe there was a command for rad that allowed you toset a minimum light level for the player character.

Q:Is this still the case and if so what is it?

Q2:If not is there any other way you guys can suggest to fix this problem?

thankyou!

A1: I dont think there is any command like that of HL1 in the RAD
compile tool for HL2, although I would love to be proved wrong.

A2: There is nothing wrong with placing point lights in the middle of
the hallway to emit light (just a very low level of light), or even
spot lights for that matter. If you look at the decompiled maps that
valve made (from HL2) they have random light Ents. placed in areas to
brightne things. You may also want to look into increasing the
intensity (you have 4 numbers in that are in the brightness value the
4th is the intensity - default is 200 try raising it to something like
500 or even 1000!) and range of the lights you already have.

And just one side note: this may also be a good map for the CTs ot Ts to buy night vision goggles (if its available in CSS)

I have lights of varying intensity, and there in lies the isue.

I guess I could add some light entities to brighten certain spots, it's
just that the lighting effects are really beautifull. they are dark and
moody, and they give the meuseum character and a sense of environment.

When I mapped for half-life 1 and cstrike .1-1.6, I used to say "hey,
the map is dark, buy nightvision" the problem is people just wont play
it

well, thankyou for the help. if anyone else has any ideas omegaslayer, i'd apreciate it.

I think I am going to see if there is a light type or checkbox therein to affect only players. that would be ideal...

Way back when I first started mapping for TFC, I stumbled on this trick
for minimum light level for HL1 (stopped using it after a while so I'm
not sure if it works in hl2 or not)

Go to the map properties ent - worldspawn

Turn smart edit off and add the parameter _minlight with the value of anywhere between 0 and 1

This can be applied to lots of different ents to my understanding.

Basically you're saying "override the damn thing"...

between 0 and 1, does that mean 0 = dark and 1 = fullbright?

Do you have any outdoor area in your map? If you do, you just need to adjust the light_environment setting. Change the ambiant light to something higher (between 30 to 50). This should solve your problem.
