Hi everybody!

If your'e old in theese forums you know i've said it before, and I say
it again. Computers are defenetly capable of generating random maps,
and especialy for HL2. My release of HL2rmc (Half-Life 2 random map
creator) 0.9.34b on Half-Life 2 long times go was recently dropped on
HL2files as featured media and I got a LOT of downloads and a LOT of
feedback. People are burning for the idea, but the RMC in it's current
state was to old/buggy/ugly. It was simply bad.

I've set the project on track again with
entirely new coding skills, ideas and resorces I'm planning it to be
everything the old version was not, and I will call the new version the
1.0

You canread more about the 1.0 progress here.

And here's a
screenshot from the Alpha GUI. Only for your pleasure.

However, due to the way this program works, with the smallest component a map can be divided into: Parts.
It will need many parts and you can help making them. I bet you have a
million small little testmaps that you never cared to finnished. Well a
part is so small, it can be finnished within a day.

A part can nearly be as small as a closet and as big as a city block,
and you will get full credits for it. I've already completed the new
part compiler for the 1.0 and the alpha is up and running but not
distributed yet due to the fact that i'm not done with the translink
between HL2rmc and the compiler.

If you want to help making parts
here's a
custom FGD and a tutorial
.

"Our" main site is here: hl2rmc.hl2files.com/.

Expected release of 1.0 is next week - christmas The later is more probable. ;P

Personally I think this is a nice project to do, I mean to write such a program, but not something really usefull for mappers. Actually, I'm not looking forward for maps that take the prefab (or prop model) overuse a little further: maps that all have similar parts in them, that all look like each other in some sort of way...

Nice idea, but I think there's better things to do than to please lazy mappers and to kill the custom map community with even more crap maps.

Well, the idea is more of a fun, mess around kinda tool. I don't
expect to see a full fledged map this way. But, yeah, I see your
point.

Thanks for the nicy comments. And Captain P, the process it uses to
create maps is much more complex than that. There's a bounch of
problems you would face when you take parts of maps and align them
together. The most obvius is the connection gap witch I created a
standard for. Then there's name conflicts, NPC placements, Item
placements, texture axis rotation. And tons more...

However this project needs part builders. It's kind of like making
maps, and you will get lot's of credits for it. Anyone wish to help?

I might try and help out with a few very small parts, but unfortunately I'm really busy these days.

I like the idea behind this one as these random map generators have always been a great source for short term fun in times of boredom. If I continue to write like that then hit me.

How about a part-generator with parameters like texture theme, style,
indoor/outdoor and such things? That sounds much more like a
map-generator to me. Not just fitting pre-made parts together but
actually generating them...

Well it's not only "fitting pre made parts together". A part works more
like a template for the RMC to randomize. A single part can have tons
of possiblities with the right editing skills.

And a part generator is too abstract to code. A computer isn't creative. That would be like coding AI.
