I never finished HL1, in spite of the fact that I dearly loved the game as a whole. Don't ask me why but I just lost interest in the single player champaign.
I am determined however to play AND finish HL2. I must confess a certain amount of disappointment. Currently I am riding the airboat. Most of what I want to see zooms past me due to incoming fire. In fact I have been through about 4 levels of airboat pleasure with no end in sight. This part of the game, sucks.
Anyone besides me notice how linear the game feels? You have a path, its always, or almost always forward. (discounting the boatride where you open the gates)
I wish they would make another game like Hexen 1. Hubs were so much more fun.

Non-liniar FPS games are pretty rare. The only one I can think of is Deus-Ex.
The address is (apparently) correct and the hyperlink works fine for me. Anyone else having trouble?

I take it then that you never played really well constructed games like Hexen or Heretic then?
Linear may work, may not, I don't know. I just think that always forward is not a balanced game. I like a small bit of spice. Its frustrating but also rewarding when you forget something 3 levels back and have to go back and either attain it, or accomplish it before you can proceed. Hexen had a lot of these tasks.
Still, although the graphics is nice, the story is a bit flat IMO. No more or less than most other games I suppose, but I had hoped for more coming from HL.
[edit] Now that I think about it, Duke3d had a really fine storyline as well.

I haven't played hexen but heretic was one of my first loves. It was
actually fairly linear. The only non-linear thing was that you could
often acquire keys/key items in any order you like, but that's about it.
TBH, I for one don't care whether a game is linear or not. As long as
it doesn't rely on mazes, it ok (that's what ruined Septerra Core for
instance).

Hah, that's nothing. There was a puzzle-level in Septerra Core that
required you to find a lever and to use it in order to raise bridges so
that you can cross over to another area but these bridges in turn
blocked the lower path so you had to find a second lever on the other
side to turn them off and then find a way to the lower area to
enter the next level. What's more, you had to do this whole thing in
reverse to get out once you acquired the needed item. After 2 or 3
consecutive mazes like this you can hear your brain pounding.
And I may be mixing games up, but I remember heretic had a gameplay
similar to the already cliche' woflenstein3d key-door system: find key
A, open door A to find key B, find door B to find key C etc etc etc.

I reached Ravenholm. However recreated that map for HL2DM did a marvelous job. Anyone know who did it?
It wasn't one of my favorite maps, but the recreation was well done.

It's times like these I wish we had a "wanted" forum, for modders and
mappers in need of files (prefabs, models etc) or simply of help (mappers,
modelers etc).
Think i'll take this to the site suggestions thread.

I love playing through the original Doom (not a fan of Doom2). I
just love trying to do speed runs while accessing every single secret.
It's fun and very brainless
But seriously, I've played through HL1 probably 5 times over the years.
I've played through HL2 twice.

Man, you're hard-core old-school.
I do miss the mindless action of the original DOOM.

At least you all are polite when you reject someones request. Much more preferable to the alternative method. I guess I will make one on my own.
Thanks for your time.
