I dunno if you can. I have Hammer 3.4/3.5 separate on my PC.

I just aim my maps, bsp and rmf toward the maps folder in HL1.

My steam doesn't give an option for installing within it.

[EDIT]

I changed my yellow answer because Omega actually took the time to type out the relevant information..

You go Omega, the credit is all yours.

Okay your a little confused here:

The SDK you get off of steam is ONLY for HL2 and its mods (DoD: S CS:
S, HL2, HL2: DM). And it comes preconfigured. There is no way to map
for HL1 using the steam SDK.

To map for HL1 you need to download the older version of hammer (3.4)
and run its separaetly from steam. There is a tut here that explains
how to configure hammer 3.4 with steam to map for HL1 and its other
mods (NS OP4 HL1 BS TS):

Do you know how many times I tried to get hl1 to run through Hammer 4.0? Too many. Yeah, it doesn't work for several reasons. Primarily from things like ... what if you make a displacement? How will hl1 compilers deal with that? And, there isn't even anywhere to configure the csg compiler!! You'd have to call a bat file or something like that.

It would be nice if some hl1 support was implemented into hammer 4 though, simply so you didn't have to grab crap out of the gcf files anymore, it'd be automatic.

If something doesn't "work" in the tutorial check this one out, it's "unabridged": http://web.pdx.edu/~anaser/hammer.html

I remember going through it once or twice and some of the steps didn't seem to work, I think there was some editing that went on without me knowing about it.
Blame it on Microsoft, God does.

hammer 3.5, even though it's still a buggy beta, is worth using over 3.4, for reasons that i can't remember anymore......
