Somebody archived the old snarkpit

While I was looking for old EnB websites, I came across "The Way Back Machine (real name). It's a web archive were people submit sites for the purpose of archiving them. Well I decided to try Snarkpit.com and I got this. This should be a trip down memory lane for a couple of ya'll.

as far as i can tell, its only one page, and mucho dead linkage....not much of an archive actually... :/

Wow, it's laggier than this snarkpit.

Because the Snarkpit is a dynamic site, the archive can only really capture the pages upfront. I f most of the Snarkpit was static, I'm sure the pages would have been there. I don;t know who requested the archival, but they aparently didn't read the guidlines for submission.

Hmm you can view snapshots of different months and weeks.

It's not really a complete archive but quite impressive. You can look up most of the news and see some very old site layouts. The fun thing is even the links to other sites work in the same timeline. Well, sometimes they work.

It's a web archive were people submit sites for the purpose of archiving them.

Actually the 'Alexa, Internet Archive' bot archives the pages just like the Googlebot crawls the pages for search results.

It is a pretty handy thing, was looking for an old version of a website the other day.

Maybe poor Lep is trapped in that archive and he needs our saving. Then we could get the forum fixed for Firefox.

I wonder how Orphues ever survived in that site with is 56k, I have 11mb and it's as laggy as hell.

Its laggy cause it is the archived version on the Internet Archive servers.

Snarkpit didn't really get laggy until the last year or so.

I had 56k before DSL, now I am back on 56k again... For the most part only two things currently make this site slow, large screens (of course) and the hosting. Snarkpit is pretty much 56k friendly whenever the host isn't acting up.

Since we cannot control the host from a user level, all we can do is fix the parts we have access too.

If Lep ever returns ( I am beginning to think that he will rise again as a second savior) We can request another host. I suspect though that the task of switching hosts is so hard/difficult that he will veto the idea.

Perhaps someday Lep will share the site just enough to allow another to swap it for him.

actually changing hosts isn't that bad.. just needs to be somebody he trusts...
