Ok, I know I'm a little early with (by technicality, 2 days) but I just finished watching the screening at my job and I must say, excellent. Although a bit laggy in the middle of the movie, but once you realize how vital those parts are, you're glad the director didn't cut them. This is perhaps one of the best 3 hour (2:50) movies in a long time.
Also, sopposed to be attached to the Superman movies is the Trailer for next years Spiderman 3, and what a good trailer it is. From the moment the trailor starts, you start twitch in your seat as you realize they are finally doing Venom. VENOM!! Not only that, but how they will play it out is through a more reasonable coloring of the suit black, like nanomachines infesting the Spidersuit (instead of a bolby like creature portrayed in comics and the Ultimate Spiderman Game). This should be intreseting when it comes time for the movie to be released next year.
Any way, stop with my rambling. Post your preemptive thoughts about this movie, and thouse who see it, post what you think.

I didn't like X3, so I don't (didn't) have high hopes for this movie. (though I guess X3 sucked because the original, talented director went to direct another movie... a better movie?)
I'll pay my $10 in a few weeks.

Unless everyone says this movie is incredible, I won't see it. Looks like crap to me.

In response to Dr Glass:
The reason the director of the first 2 Xmen left because he was asked to do the Superman movie, not to mention that he was offered enough money to make Superman Returns the most expensive movie ever made.
But I can understnad why many would hesitate, and in some cases many would not like this film, it has a lot of plot building scenes, and by the end, one could feel there wasn't enough, even though its 3 hours. But then again, the director did an excelent job with this film.
Just wait till Friday, it will have been out for 3 days, and the reviews will have piled up. Find the critic whose personal preferences most match your own, and go by their word to determin wheter you might like it or not. But, I must say, there is nothing like seeing a bullet proof eye. [end]

yeah I'd see it for $3 no doubt. Its not that I think the trailer looks bad, its just that almost all super-hero movies have sucked really hard. Though the director did make the 2 good x-men movies, I still don't trust him... It would be a different story if movies were affordable, and creativity was the norm. Thats not the case, movies cost too much and creativity is all but crushed by the narrow minded, talentless hacks who run the movie industry.

Bryan Singer is very talented. He also made The Usual Suspects and Apt Pupil, if you're still doubtful.
Hulk, Spider-Man 1 and 2, X Men 1 and 2, Sin City, V for Vendetta, Batman Begins, Constantine and Hellboy are all good comic book/superhero movies, some better than others. But to say there is an influx in bad comic book movies is bulls**t. Ther have been bad ones (Punisher) but by far, there are more good ones than poorly made hunks of crap.
I'm thankful that thus far (for the most part) people who have gotten their hands on comic properties have been fans of the title themselves.
In any case, I'm seeing this tonight and I fully trust Singer. As I said before, he has NEVER made a bad movie and he isn't going to start now.
Just be thankful Burton didn't get it like he wanted. Nicholas Cage was slated to be Superman in that case. Kevin Smith was also attached to write it at one point ... and he's a f**king douchebag wrapped in a loser. Not very good at writing either.
Be happy that you got the best of the best. If you don't like it still: fine. But at least realize that this is a treat, especially when compared to what was going to be made pre-batman begins. WB seems to have learned their lesson with keeping their grubby paws out of the properties and let people be creative.
I'm cautious of Spider-Man 3. I mean, it'll be great, I trust Raimi completely, but, I think Venom is too soon. Even if he isn't Venom until the end of the movie. That and Danny Elfman doesn't want to be involved in this one
Your guy's movie tickets are expensive.

Just got home.
It was awesome. It's a lot of movie, that's for sure.
The only gripe I have is that some parts of the movie feel awkwardly paced. But, all in all it was wonderful. I enjoyed the more realistic aspect to Superman's personality. It's about goddamned time.
The scenes that pit Lex against Kal are so well done. Oh man.
Spawn was a terrible hunk of s**t. I believe I was listing ones that were good

Comic book movies (might add game movies to that) has been a hit and miss catagory. The comic book storys are so illaborate that many times the stoy only appeals to a comic book fan. So in most cases the director has to create a balance between detail and duration. For instance, I felt at times that Lex wasn't getting much of that on-screen development. The sad part is, though, that many excellent comic book movies have been deemed terrible. I for one loved V for Vendetta, but at my theater it moved from a large house to a small house in a weeks period. In many cases, it's the topic and director that determines whether a comic book movie will servive.

From what I have heard, the superman film had something like 8 directors and took 12 years to make. At one point Tim Burton was director.

Although it's very detailed, you could seriously watch the movie and understand what's going on. I've never seen a single Superman Movie (other than a several episodes of Smallville, which has very little in common with the movie.) and understood words and phrases as they poped up, such as the "fortress of solitude" sudenly rang a bell and I had hardly ever heard it before.
Go watch it, and anythong you really didn't understand in the begining should become clear by the end.

I... didn't like the movie that much. I think it merely touched on him being an alien/outsider, it didn't really go into it much further. Plus I thought the whole father/son cycle thing was a little sloppily done too. I also agree with what someone said about the pacing being awkward sometimes. Yeah, it's a summer movie, what did I expect? Something more, considering that I liked the first two X-Men movies.
The effects were nice though, and I'll admit the various setpieces were cool. I just expected more substance behind the action. Either that or I missed this substance entirely, and someone should point it out to me.
Oh, and that little kid was annoying as hell. Kevin Spacey was awesome though.
