Wow, you actually have some very impressive media to show there. Its not often that we get a mod like your trying to recruit people here at Snarkpit. I think I'm kinda interested in your project. Since the map would consist of only one fighting area it shouldn't take very long to make a map.

The team leader sent me an email as well trying to recruit me.
Unfortuenatly some real life issues popped up and I couldnt get
involved with another project.
Hes really got everything together with this mod, he just needs some
source mappers to get the maps out. Little info on the maps: This is a
"tournament" style of game, where warriors from all ages come together
to fight, so you can immagine that the worlds they fight in can span
from midevil castles to street allies to space ships. So a lot ofthe
design can be left up to you!
Anyways I wish you the best of luck on your mod Torque.

I would probably help out, but I don't really map anymore, and everyone knows combat sims don't work in 1st person, you need 3rd person... ...that way it also eliminates the need for weapon and arm models.

<DIV>Actually, Brutal is a 3rd person game. The "elements" we're taking from FPS games is simply the level design structure. Instead of having a single 3d "arena" like in MK or Soul Calibur, we're actually going to make our maps just like you'd find in Quake 3 or HL2DM where players have the ability to run around the map anywhere they want. If you've played Rune, thats the best comparison except we're putting more emphasis on fighting with each fighter having different moves etc.</DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>Thanks for the kind words Omega and for pointing out that the maps will be tournament based. Basically each fighter is going to have a battleground (map) based on their time period and place of origin. So B.I.O.S. up there might have a battleground that takes place in a futuristic industrial factory of some kind. But Brek's battleground might be in the forest somewhere.</DIV>

<DIV>Thanks finger! Good to see that you're still around  </DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>Well, there's nothing wrong with Arena maps... I just mean that since Brutal won't have the shared camera that most fighting games have, it will open up the game to much more free movement throughout the maps  </DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>We're also hoping to have a good selection of maps with some sort of environmental hazards. For Example, we have a Medieval knight Jaim, whose level would take place on the ramparts of a castle that is currently under siege from Balista and Catapults, so every once in a while a large boulder may smash out a wall, or crush a player to a pulp against the castle walls.</DIV>

This all sounds very cool man. If it wasn't for me working on AoC I'd probably join you.
You should try the Mod Talk forum over at Interlopers if you're looking to recruit more people.

Question: once you get the mod released (or just all your mappers assembled), will you accept map submissions to perhaps add to the official line-up if they're good enough?
I'm just wondering, since it seems like a few of folks here don't have the time at the moment, but all want to contribute something eventually.

<DIV>Could do... never really thought of that actually. I mean, if we get the funding we're looking for and the game turns into a retail project, we're definitely planning to make it modable... at least in the sense of levels... never thought of people wanting to submit maps that may be included in the retail version... guess that would all depend on how good the map was and if it fit in with the game's theme.</DIV>

I guess submitting maps could get kind of complicated, because without being on the team I'm assuming a mapper wouldn't be able to get a really good background on the character they're mapping a zone for, and the end map wouldn't be as coherant with your universe as you'd probably like. Additionally, unless the solo mapper can create textures, the map probably wont be worth that much (having stock textures) to your mod, I'm guessing.
Edit: P.S. I like the 2nd metropolis shots

<DIV>yeah pretty much. But we are planning to let people make maps for it once its released so I guess that's when people who don't have time now will be able to contribute. Might be a while though.</DIV>

Ah well, best of luck rustling up a full crew, and locking down a publisher!

I don't understand why you wouldn't become your own publisher.
You can take credit cards through paypal (which costs nothing. You can send people a bill through paypal, it doesn't require them to have an account.)
You can also lock content with whatever cyphers you can think up to stop people from stealing the data. You can also have the server side code, or updates, check for that kind of stuff too. You can even require a key and create a system to activate the game ... none of this costs money.
So ... why wouldn't you be your own publisher? You could even charge a little extra if someone wants a retail like copy, for materials.
You can accept my ideas free of charge.
Blame it on Microsoft, God does.

<DIV>Yeah, the reason we're not being our own publisher is because we can't afford to. Even forgetting about licensing the source engine (which you can distrubute any way you want once you pay the $300,000 + license fee) Brutal needs to be made as a AAA title. If not AAA at least a really high B.</DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>Salaries alone are going to cost around $600,000 USD. If any of you guys has that kind of money, I'd love for you to join the team  </DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>A publisher funds the entire project paying for salaries, equipment, marketing/advertising, production, shelf space, boxes you name it.</DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>Its just not something we can do on our own. </DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>That and the fact that you can't make money from a MOD so we'd have to pay Valve for a license or make a deal with them for distribution through steam, which we'll need a really good demo for.</DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>Hence the need for mappers.</DIV>
