Hi,

The map I have made is all done and works fine on my Windows PC, but the map crashes the Clan GGG remote Linux server that I pay for.

Symptoms: When the map is loaded using rcon command "changelevel de_Veikko_b2" or "changelevel de_veikko_b2", CS:S goes to the connection/loading screen, and just stays on "server changing level" and never gets anywhere. When I check the server's map using xfire, I find that it has crashed and after some time, reverted back to the first map in the map list (de_dust).

So I was hoping that some of you could tell me some things in a map that would invariably crash Linux servers. BTW, my map is a Counter-Strike: Source map, if that helps you in any way.

Now I realise that there has already been a topic on this by Boxy, but he never actually said how he fixed it, and he hasn't been on since Feb 2005.

I hope that I can sort out the problem soon, I want to premier my new server with this map on board.

My very own map dm_departure suffered from the same illness. I could
never find out what was wrong. But some things people suggested to me
were to look at ladders (which I had none of in my map!). I then looked
into trains, but it wasnt conclusive.

/my 2 cents

By any chance was the map compiled between the SDK updates on the 4th and 11th of this month? The one on the 4th introduced a problem in compiling the Linux data, the one on the 11th fixed it.

I know there's a parameter for vbsp.exe called "calculating linux collision data" or similar. Don't know how that could help, though

the only time that one of my maps crashed linux servers while playing fine on windows was a few years ago. a tfc map with an explosion that created to many gibs caused that one.

Oh yeah, I know what you are talking about, but I just compiled it a day or two ago, so no, that can't be it. Oh, and Omegaslayer, I know about the whole ladder thing, I checked into that and made sure that the ladders were not clipping into any brushes/objects, but that didn't help any on the next compile. I will next try to delete the ladders completely.

Like I said, it is vital that I find a solution, because my own server is Linux, and as far as I know, the server company wouldn't change mine to a Windows machine.

Found a solution! Apparently, it wasn't my map's fault, it is any map compiled under the newest version of the SDK. All I had to do was add this to the command line when you go to compile:

-novirtualmesh

That's it! I mean, it might not work for all, but it worked perfectly for my map, so it is worth a shot for anyone else having problems.

$bsp_exe -novirtualmesh -game $game ...what is the rest of the command line or is that it?
